Hey Ken, what are some of the rigs that you would put into this category?

That model (RA), IMO, likes 'punchy and tight' (at least mine does). Hence, my AE410 and RH450 or Markbass F1 really works well with that bass (still plenty of top end, but more punch and less 'sizzle' than through my more full range, transparent rigs like the TecAmp or Epi stuff). Nickel roundwounds help a lot also. Even for me (Mr. Treble response!), the top end on my RA was overwhelming with steels. You can really hear that on the original RA clip I put up through the TecAmp rig with Hi Beams... whew... sizzly wizzly!

My LM and LG sound great to me through virtually anything :bassist: However, ever since I got nickels on that RA and purchased the RH450 (a very mid and a bit raw/punchy voiced head), I'm diggin' on the RA also.... still warm down low, but now more grind that pure sizzle up top. It's a very different 'grind' than the classic LM 70's thing though.

Edit: I'd like to hear the RA through the new GK Neo cabs with a 700 or 1001RB. My guess is, that would kill also!

Unfortunately, i don't think any of your basses made it to BPL.

Jimmy's booth has 2 kpb 4's ... a burgandy mist, rosewood, alder & a trans white, maple, ash
There is also a "dodge dart" green RA5, my biggredd LM5 (up for sale through jimmy) and a dakota red LG4.
The Aguilar booth has an LG5, inca silver with binding.
The EMG booth has a white kpb4 and my new olympic white LG4.
The Dunlop booth has a black LM5 & a sunburst LG4.

I think that's everything.
Sorry, no pics.

How bad... Jimmy sent me an email asking if It'd be fine the bass would be there.
I've been so full these days I didn't check it and got to answer yesterday, early...

It would've been my pleasure!

Hey Jason

Tell us more about your new OW LG4. Is the trans white P bass the same one from before? its marked as sold on the web site.

Been to the shop lately? seen any of our basses? In pieces?

Aj

My new bass is actually Andy Cotton's old bass. I need a 4str for my new gig (the musical "Dreamgirls") & Andy wants an LG5. Jimmy was nice enough to barter a deal to get me Andy's bass & build him a new one. It was one of the last NYC built basses & I remember unpacking it when Jimmy arrived in California.
It sounded great then, so when I saw it for sale on TB, I put some wheels in motion & things worked out. It still sounds great & plays like a dream.
I did, however, have Jimmy install a set of EMG JV-X pickups in it. I will be playing in many different theaters (which are known for bad electrical wiring) over the next year and want to avoid any chance of single coil hum. Of course, I had Jimmy save the pickups for me for when the tour is over. The EMG's sound great with Jimmy's preamp. It'll never be that phat single coil sound, but it will get the job done for the time being ...
The white kpb4 is the same one. The guy left a deposit, but decided on a 5 string, so it's for sale again.
Sorry, but I haven't been to the shop in weeks.
I've been living in NYC for the last 2 weeks and will be there for the next 6 weeks or so to start a tour.
I just flew in for the show.
I'll be away for the next year, so no more shop updates from me for a while.

I'm posting this up for my buddy Jason (Vision) who has an LM on order, and is deciding between the satin and the gloss. Here is a picture of my RA (a rather unusual RA with no blocks and binding... so the look is that of the LM that Jason has on order).

I really dig the feel of both the satin and gloss neck finishes, but the gloss look is just beautiful. Jason said Jimmy felt it really doesn't impact the tone. At most, it will give you a touch more upper treble, which is not a bad thing on a 70's type J spec.

This gloss on mine does not look 'vintage' to me (versus the much darker nitro finish on my LG neck). I kind of dig the 'natural' finish with the CAR paint job... but vintage tint gloss with a natural ash vintage tint body... yeah baby:bassist:

Yah Baby...... It's done.

BTW all the other basses are availible. Hopefull Jimmy will write back with details.
OK here goes:
KBP4 Standard in aged Olympic white with EMG's... yes EMG's the only one. I built it for the EMG booth at Bass Player Live show this weekend.
KPB4 Classic maple neck ash.
LG4 Classic in Sunburst that unfortunately for me is "Show Worn" So I will have to discount it but the bass is killin.
LG4 Classic Dakota Red "BUT" the neck on this bass belongs to another bass, so at some point a matching headstock neck will be ready for it.
LG5 Classic Supreme Inca Silver. I cut the neck back in NYC. It has that old Brazilian rosewood board from that old stash. We rebound the neck here at this shop and the inlays are 7mm celluloid... so the bass is modeled after a late '65 or early '66. It also has a Aguilar 3 band. The bass is really hi ticket but incredible!!!
LM5 "Used" yes this was Jason's Bigg Redd with the 12th fret inlay. Ash with rosewood board. This was the most popular bass at the show for whatever reason... I think everyone must have seen the photo's on Talk Bass that Jason posted.
Also I have a burgundy mist KBP4 Classic not show.
Respectfully Yours,
Jimmy Coppolo

WoW ... Got anymore A-C Porn...

Yah Baby...... It's done.

I recognize the Ash Body Trans white maple KPB4 thats on the web site. Pretty sure that's Nitro. IMHO needs a Gold Guard.:bassist:

I see a bigred bass.

I wonder if that's ebony on the Inca LG5

What pick ups are those in the OW Pbass?
