i bought my straplocks before the bass got here.... i think i opened the box, felt the weight of the bass, then put the straplocks on.. then played the bass..
im afraid of loosing a bass to a drop with the tiny fender style buttons..

OK guys here's a question for you .........

Straplocks on a Jimmy bass, sacrilege or not ?? :hiding:

Shouldn't they come with the bass? I mean you are paying quite a bit for the bass already :)

Jimmy's whole thing is to try to make a 'new' vintage instrument. So, he uses the old school truss rod design, no graphite in the flat sawn one piece necks, a nice vintage feeling low radius board, in many cases, nitro finished necks and bodies, and.... traditional strap buttons.

I thought I heard that he recently started using the very nice dual use straplocks (since as you can see, most of us swap the traditional bottons for these anyway), which pretty much look like a traditional strap button, but not sure.

when I surf in the internet, I saw this lovely KBP4.

but seems this bass headstock has a little bit different form what Jimmy recent basses.

I am not an expert of A-C, but I know some of you are, anyone can identify this bass and what is the specs of this bass.

Seems like the standard headstock to me. The 5 string headstock is bigger (of course) and that is what you might be cueing in on.

That looks like a VERY nice KBP4, with the bent plate bridge option, and what looks like a nice Nitro finished burst to me, and nice (probably Indian) RW board. Sweet!

That's on the lowends site.

My guess is its a older model, #08. That has the older smaller headstock, like Kirk's bass. Maybe A 1.5 nut? Looks sweet.

How about the inca lg5? Nice!!!!

Aj

I can't quite tell on that headstock. It has the new optional bridge, and I think Jimmy used the standard 'churchkey' tuning heads for a short while somewhat recently due to difficulty in sourcing the lollipop tuners for a while. So, it seems like a recent one to me.

Who knows! It looks like a nice one!

i think its the 5 string bent plate thats new. the 4 string has always existed, but not the 5.

Yup .. this is a very early AC ... I'm guessing that it's from early 2005.
All of the headstocks were smaller, the tuners were larger, and the p basses got the traditional style bridge. I had one of these early kpb4's and the nut width on mine was that of a jazz bass. Not sure about this one. This was also before Jimmy started winding his own pickups, so i'm guessing that this one has a seymour duncan in it.

I was going to say it look slike an older one.. from about the year mine was made..
mine is from early to mid 2004 and has the same smaller (slimmer- banana )headstock.. At least that is what is looks like in that photo. .It also looks like it has the older tuners that i have which is the hipshot Mini- ultralights like what is on the sadowsky 5 strings.
I first remember jimmy going to the fuller headstock at bass player live in NYC around 2006..and they were fazed in.. IIRC... and that is when he started to officially use the 66 style tuning keys. So my guess is that it may be pre fall 2006.

EDIT.. Jason already beat me while i was typing ....
