A while back George was nice enough to put up with my wanting to take it for a few days for a test run...and although I'm not really a P bass guy that bass made me stumble for a bit about that feeling.

Hey, George. I loved the LG5! It's gonna be an amazing bass for Steve. It came down to which I felt more comfortable with and for me, that's a P. Not that I don't like a jazz. I do! But for a bass at this level I would rather have the P.

Hey guys,
I don't have much time to surf anymore now that I've left the army and I'm back at school (taking too many hours!), but I wanted to let everyone know that my LG5 is KILLING in my college lab band. My instructor is a (godly) bass player and it seems he's giving me all the 60s/70s finger funk tunes because he loves the LG5 tone, despite the crappy ass GK 2X10 combo I have to plug into. He keeps giving me all these solos, when it's a freaking big band and I'm just suppose to hide behind the piano and play time for the horns! LOL...anyways, next week the LG5 will be paying homage to Lyle Mays and Jaco in concert if anyone around North Texas wants to come check it out.

I think i am going to break down and buy some TI flats for my kbp's this week... my friend john had them on his sonic blue jazz and it slammed...
But i will leave rounds on my LG for sure

Also, these guys do custom guards based on drawings/tracings, so there's always that as an option, too.

YES! I love the TI flats on my KPB-5... and they sound great on the 55-94, too!

From everything I've read, TI flats are like a fine wine ... improving with age. I've always been one to hardly ever change my strings. I love the funk gettin' into them if you know what I mean. The flats on my KBP-5 are just now starting to break in after 2 months.
Either that, or it just takes a while to get used to them.
I had a set on a fretless Zon for a long time, and the always struck me as kinda' funny initially, but eventually felt great, and sounded great in a mix. Thing is, if I put the bass down for a month or two (which I did regularly, since I rarely have the opps to play fretless), they'd feel just as funky to me as the first time I put them on.
I think it has something to do with their balanced tension, and odd gauges of the particular alloy they use to help achieve that (and of course the tone they go for.)
In general, I think flats, at least for me, always seem kinda' crappy... even on a P bass... UNTIL you play/hear them in a classic rock or funk/motown mix. THEN it becomes clear why they're popular. I have a set on my straight up Fender P 4 and I almost hate noodling on it solo, but playing along with mp3 tracks or in a band is wonderful. Again, at least for me... mainly in my case because I've pretty much been ALL about round-wounds most of my bass playing life.
