Hey Dan - do yourself a favour sometime and give a set of Fodera Wooten Nickels a try on that RA-5. I've heard lots of great things about the Sunbeams, but the Foderas are wicked good on the RA.

Quick question. If I leave the output jack plugged in and pop up the pre's bypass switch I don't use any battery power?

The bypass is strictly just that... a bypass... not an on/off switch. Just because you bypass the preamp does not prevent it from getting the power. As long as the plug is in the socket, the connection is made, and the preamp has power.

I need some advice on polishing my LG5. Are there any particular polishes that should be avoided with the nitro finish? Is Ernie Ball guitar polish okay?

I put a set of DR Sunbeams on my RA-5 yesterday.
The D'addario strings that came on the bass were OK
but the B string kinda sucked.
Anyway...the Subeams sound GREAT!!

I need some advice on polishing my LG5. Are there any particular polishes that should be avoided with the nitro finish? Is Ernie Ball guitar polish okay?

I got hold of the Meguiars/Fender kit which is quoted as suitable for use on nitro finishes and it seems to work well on my LG5.

Minor update on my LG5. Everything got sent to paint, so we're in the home stretch. I'm figuring mid April and I'll have a new bass.

I don't know how you nitro guys do it. I have a poly LM5 and Im starting to see the wear on where I keep my thumb when im using my fingers. I am also seeing some wear on my fret board. I Love it Love it love it.

Hey George, I might give the Fodera's a try
the next time I change the strings. I really like the

I just use my breath and an old white t-shirt. But I find the Sadowsky spray to be super mild so you could try some of that. Personally, I wouldn't use the Ernie Ball stuff, their finishes (stingrays, not bongos) are like tank armor, AC nitro is more like skin.
