I have to play it safe not sure if we're having a P or a J, an active or passive, 60s or 70s spacing, we will love it equally in either case. Figured I better have a P around just in case.

I am not a P bass guy either. I guess if I'm gonna jump in and try it out this is as good of a bass to try it out with... I do a gig with allot of Motown and 70s P bass funkalicious stuff so it might just work for me on occassion. I am sceptical about having flats too but I am going to give them a try....

My Father in Law is a sax player and my wifes a flute player so I'll be fighting for my little bass player......I am not a P bass guy either. I gassed for a Sadowsky for a long time, and just as I was about to act on it, they started posting pictures of Obama all over their site and that cured my gas right away.I LOVE my Sadowsky (same as you, solid ash/maple). But man, you need to check out an LM! 70's J Bass goodness

Don't get me wrong -- photos of McCain would have done the same thing -- I just hate it when people lever their position in an industry to tell us how to think.
I've never yet tuned in to the academy awards, for example, to see what brilliant political message Sean Penn has for us this year, you know?
At any rate, as time goes by I become more and more satisfied with my Alleva Coppolo, which to me says a lot.
It's easy to gush about a bass when you are in the honeymoon period with it, but it's another thing entirely to grow more fonder of it over time. These days many basses create a buzz then fade away for the next flavor of the month, but Jimmy's basses fully capture the essense of basses that have been around since electric basses have been around, hence Coppolos ought to be a top bass in this industry from here on out.
fwiw, I don't think Roger ever publicly endorsed Obama (at least not on his web site). The pics on his web site were from an award ceremony honoring Stevie Wonder that was held at the White House. Ricky Minor, a Sadowsky endorser, was playing there that night. Roger simply posted pics of his instruments in close proximity to the most powerful man on the planet. Pretty cool no matter which way you voted. IMO, of course.

Although... one of the all time funkiest bass lines in history, Brick House, appears to have been played with flats, just a different kind of funk sound is all.
Per the above post, that single picture of Obama had to do with an award ceremony that had a Sadowsky in part of the performance. You missed the point! There is a Sadowsky on a stand right next to the President, which most of us think was a pretty cool picture (there is a thread on it somewhere on this site). And, the performances were amazing... Esperanza just tore it up! The only 'bummer' was that Nate was not playing his Alleva that night.
Trust me, get a Sadowsky eventually. It's the 'other' wonderful boutique Jazz IMO!

Please note that I'm not talking about politics, I'm talking about why I don't gas for a Sadowsky anymore.
By the way, while the Sadowsky site is changed now, in addition to the photos on the front page there were also photos in the NYC bass section that had nothing to do with the Stevie Wonder performance.
As I said in my previous post, this isn't about politics, it's about telling people how to think.
To me, unsolicited political opinions are just like telemarketer telephone calls and spam in my email in box... I just don't want any of 'em regardless what they are trying to push on me.
As for proximity to the most powerful person on earth, I didn't realize Oprah was in attendance at that concert
. I'll have to watch it again (besides, it was a GREAT show, I LOVED it). In fact, there were two electric bass players in that show, and two electric basses: a five string and a four string. But for me, the show was stolen by the woman playing the acoustic upright bass. WOW what a talent!

Agreed. I was composing my last post when you posted this one so I hadn't seen it yet. I'm going to keep an eye out (ear too) for her in the future.
I probably will. I'm going to eventually want to buy a boutique ash and maple 34" Jazz bass, and Fbass, Alleva Coppolo and maybe Sadowsky pretty much complete my short list for consideration.

Thanks for the Art 6 recommendation. The americanos are solid and it's closer to me than the square. UNT has stuck me in some mandatory freshman classes (ie. US History 101) even though I transfered in as a junior, and it's chock full of 18 year old girls. I'm only 27 but even I feel like an old man in that class!
On a music sidenote, I'm in the 5 o'clock lab band and the director is a monster doubler on electric and acoustic bass who is working on his doctorate. Well, after playing both my LG5 and my upright in the group for half a semester (we do everything from count basie to modern stuff) he has given me a whole new batch of tunes to play and they are ALL on electric. Tower of Power, Weather Report, Return to Forever, Lyle Mays...all super funky bass charts.

Sounds like things are going great at North Texas. If you are in the 5 o'clock, you are doing quite well down there!!!! It must be amazing to be around so many good players every day.
What's the vibe with the 1 o'clock band? What kind of music are they making these days? Anyone in that top tier that you think we will all be hearing about in a couple of years?
