Congrats, Peter! May the new bass and most importantly, your new child bring you much joy.

I can't wait for you to get that bass in the mail to me. Already trying to figure out the right opportunity to get this bass on a gig. I've got a gig this Saturday night in a big club, will be using my LG5 and I have the same gig the following Friday hope to have the KBP5 in my hands by then....

Spent some time reviewing all the KBP ytou tube clips I could find...

Please note that I'm not talking about politics, I'm talking about why I don't gas for a Sadowsky anymore.

By the way, while the Sadowsky site is changed now, in addition to the photos on the front page there were also photos in the NYC bass section that had nothing to do with the Stevie Wonder performance.

As I said in my previous post, this isn't about politics, it's about telling people how to think.

To me, unsolicited political opinions are just like telemarketer telephone calls and spam in my email in box... I just don't want any of 'em regardless what they are trying to push on me.

As for proximity to the most powerful person on earth, I didn't realize Oprah was in attendance at that concert . I'll have to watch it again (besides, it was a GREAT show, I LOVED it).

In fact, there were two electric bass players in that show, and two electric basses: a five string and a four string. But for me, the show was stolen by the woman playing the acoustic upright bass. WOW what a talent!

The photo in the bass section was just a slightly different photo from the home page--also taken from the Stevie Wonder tribute. There was absolutely no political statement intended when we posted the photos of a Sadowsky bass sitting so close to The President. We would have done the same regardless of who the president was. I am very clear that one does not mix politics with business.

Yeah man ... this is something new that Jimmy is offering for export.
The big difference from regular A-C's is the wood type.
The wood used is called Primavera ... IMO, it's very similar to Alder.
Jimmy built the first 2 for the NAMM show this year, one with 60's spacing and a rosewood board & one with 70's spacing and a maple board.
I personally dug the 60's, rosewood combo ... it reminded me a lot of my big red bass, but had more defined high mids than alder.
Bummer is that these basses will only be sold abroad.

I LOVE my Sadowsky (same as you, solid ash/maple). But man, you need to check out an LM! 70's J Bass goodness Very different from the Sadowsky, but just as good in a different way.

Come on over... there is room for both in the arsenal!!!!

I'm sure they are great basses, but my Sadowskys are all I need, in fact, I could live with only one bass, but I like to have one with flats and one with rounds so I don't have to swap strings everytime I go for that particular tone, in fact, the band I'm in now will benefit greatly of having two basses with those setups. And my fretless, even now that I don't play it much (my upright takes almost all my 'toothless' time) is such a sweet sounding bass that I can't part with it.

OK, no more Sadowsky talking on this thread



Regarding the photo with Obama, I, like others here, don't consider it a political statement. So Tom, go for that Sadowsky

Cool! It sure does look like it! I'm sure enjoying that bass... fat and warm.. and... GREEN!

Edit: That look that Jimmy has in that picture is kind of funny. It's like he's saying 'hey, who the hell took the neck and hardward off this bass'!!!!

Although... one of the all time funkiest bass lines in history, Brick House, appears to have been played with flats, just a different kind of funk sound is all.

Hey Pete, betcha you'll love' the flats, they kinda go under instead of through.

When the baby is in the second trimester start playing the bass accoustically by Momma's tummy so you'll get a head start on brass

Oh I've got all sorts of issues, tried to find every You Tube of a KBP last night. Woke up at 5:30AM this morning and pulled out every album (CD) I could find that I thought had a P bass on it for the car ride to work.

Combed through just about every part of the A-C thread dating back to the original part 1. Doesn't seem like there are allot of guys around here using a KBP5 outside of Kirk. A few guys had them come and go.

On the baby front we have another huge battle wife's a Giant's fan and I'm a Jet's Fan. My wife actually goes to away games so I think I have a better shot at turning him/her into a fly fisherman and bass player, not sure I'll win the Football battle though...

I think you should play it live for a month before you make any real decisions. I thinks it likely you'll find love.


I have a four string P bass on the way...I can't wait! I'll have it shipped with Jimmy's half rounds,I want to try them.

What do you mean real flats? This bass is coming with TIs on it. Is that good or bad? I've tried the TIs before didn't like them but never tried them on a P bass.

I've got a fretless with Black nylon tapes on it and I definetily don't want to go that route.

Also I do play upright I wonder if you think that will effect my evaluation of the TIs on the KBP-5. What is your choice of flats? I know some other guys use Labellas not sure which ones.

I have TIs on my KBP and I have no interest in ever taking them off. They are now part of my bass. They sound and play great!

Nice clips. I dig it. I'm still waiting to hear my first P Bass with flats in a club that sounds like that. I've seen so many guys slappin' away and all that comes out front is a muddy rumble. I dig them with a pick grinding out of an SVT though, but that's a whole different thing!

I think that's what ruined this tone for me. For some reason, I just haven't experienced a PBass that sounds like that in a live mix. However, I've never heard one of Jimmy's!!!!!!!

Basically its all about stiffness and sustain and different degrees of fundamental/over tones.The extreme would be the Labella Jamersons. The other,,TI's.

BTW I think the bass on the Youtube has a new set of Labella not sure if their the Jamerson guages.
