For my next two, I'm thinking about rounding the edge for a two tone amboyna burl and utilizing that extension a bit for my fanned bass.

I was originally leaning toward a medium density Ash core, but I really think that Maple is where my heart is at on this one.

Yikes, strings like that sound about as rare as hen's teeth. I'd say to contact Mangan, but I don't think they'd be too keen on such a string without ordering a lot.

In a case like that, I'd almost suggest moving the string anchor point on the back of the bass to take about 2" off the string before it gets to the bridge.

If he runs the strings through the body he may be able to use regular strings.

Depends on how Cliff sets up the headstock. I'm not sure the body string through would be enough on all flatwound strings. Some? Sure.

Yeah, I know some flats, such as La Bella, are not good for thru body. I went back to the Owen Biddle issue of BP where it's noted that his Callowhill 30" 6-er is strung with flats. According to the article they are TI JF346 Jazz strings, which are 34".

I assume this means that the bridge -> nut measurement (counting the tuning peg length from the nut, and possible thru-body (though I can't find anything on that)) made the 34" TIs possible...?

I was talking more about extending the string a bit by either moving the anchor point behind the body about 1". You could also maybe add a fish tail to take up the extra string length.

You could see if Curt Mangan strings can make medium scale 32" scale flatwounds. ....which reminds me, I need to order a .020 for my 7 to try and a few 32" scale low B strings.
