Y'all loved the maple. What do you think about the center block concept?

I'm not big on the look of a center block myself--it seems to me like it's trying to imitate the look of a neck-through--but obviously everyone has their own likes and dislikes!

Looks like the katalox is just laid over the maple to mock up the look. I'm also not crazy about the idea and prefer the look of a full face top.

Ah ok, yeah full face for sure. Center blocks look odd imo, unless it's one of those infinite fretless builds.

On my first CB bass, 19 basses ago I think , it had a full face top over its center block. It then had redwood wing pieces on the side.

I also did a bass that had a split top that had a Wenge middle in the middle of a Bocote' top.

If you had chosen a plainer looking top I could see the appeal. For example, I feel like it could look really cool with something like a holly top.

The center block look is cool...if YOU like it! Looks great either way. I did a Mike Browne bass with a bear-claw Sitka spruce faux-center block with walnut accent stripes. Looked B-E-A-Utiful!
Go with what is different than what you have/had, maybe?

No, it's just the two pieces (they're always two pieces, I think) with the katalox stuck between him. I asked him to do it so I could see what it looks like.

That's a good point, and that's what I keep thinking... there's so much amazing spalt in it that the centerblock kind of detracts from it.
