I love the way the upper on the Dola bout wraps around your chest when seated--it just feels very connected. It's less of a thing standing, but I still really like the fact that it's so different from most single-cut designs.
That said, I've enjoyed the sleakness of the Thumbs, Streamers, and Spectors I've owned, too. The Big McNeely is cool, and I can appreciate the wider body, but the upper ball seems a bit large to my eyes--I just really like the elegant look of the original Ball shape.
Any idea how the customized Ball design on the holly/purple heart bass compares?

It is. I have a Ball 5, and it's an awesome bass.
Gorgeous as the front of my Dola is, if anything I love the look of the back even more! There are unique details like the ebony/maple heel, and the ebony laminate on the back of the headstock to echo the look of the elegant archtop guitars, that are there just for me...
How well do you find the SCB balances on a strap. Is it neck heavy at all? It's been a long time since I've had a Bordwell that isn't my S bass, and I'm considering an SCB with a very light body for my next build.
My super light 6.5 pounder has a little neck dive. Not a ton. But just a touch. I think moving the bridge side strap pin might help, but I don't want extra holes in such a work of art, so I live with it.
My 13 pounder CB doesn't have any! Just add another bass to your bass!

Cliff is building me an unlined fretless Ball 5 with a buckeye top and mahogany body (the top and bottom woods in the picture), with a maple/wenge "Modern" neck with a Rockwood board and wide spacing to match my fretted Dola. BigRig pickups and electronics from Nordstrand, and black Hipshot hardware.
Thanks! I really need to start a build thread, now that things are actually happening! To be honest, I wasn't 100% sure when the start date of the build would be, since I try not to fret over things too much once the specs are set. But once there's actually something to see, it's like being a kid waiting on Christmas!
