Looks scary to me, like some alien.

question for tim@ how does your sig model compare to a fender jazz bass? does it have the same sound signature?
Hey colonel
Sorry for the delayed response. Just finished my cd release show and was pretty swamped
I would say that it is more similar to a jazz bass than anything else. I think it has more tonal range than a traditional fender style jazz bass due to cliff's superior construction and building techniques, especially the deep set neck. It can definitely be bright and aggressive like a 70's jazz with the ash/maple/maple wood combo and the passive nordy big singles. I would say it sounds like a jazz bass but with more "breath" and more sustain and clarity. Great slap tone although not quite as punchy as my geddy lee jazz was. Way more aggressive sounding than my singlecut though. I much prefer it to any other jazz bass I have played, especially 5 strings. Cliffs B string response is better than any other. And also because the comfort and playability is way better than any fender or boutique fender knock off.
My new album should be up online soon and then you can hear it for yourself. In the meantime here is a good example of the sig bass in a r&b jazz bass type setting

hey tim,
first of all, your playing in that clip is amazing. I believe you could make any bass sound great, so that's the most important thing.
secondly, thanks for taking the time to respond, your answer was very helpful. will you ever put up a audio/video file of the bass solo'ed so we can hear the bass by itself in all its glory?

Yes. My plan is to do an in depth review of all my bordwell basses before the end of the year. Professionally shot and recorded and featuring each bass solo and in a small trio setting. Will keep ya posted. Thanks for the kind words!![]()
So, the standard 6 string set should work on a 35" scale bass? I've been wondering about which scale length to go with on my next CB based on TI Jazz Flats.
You may want to email Jason at basstringsonline.com to be 100% sure. He's great to deal with, and if you let him know you're a TBer you get VIP pricing; which knocks a couple bucks off here and there.

Cliff and I have another interesting project in the works... really looking forward to it.![]()

Hey Bordwell club

Glad to see Black Tar on the album. I've dug this track since watching a YouTube clip a year or so ago. Nice stuff.
