Thumbrest, huh? I think you're referring to my David King headless 5 (now in Singapore). FTR, I had it shaved down by a local violin maker!

You can apply the wax anytime; the results are mostly cosmetic. Same goes with the gunstock oil. It provides a little protection but not much. FWIW, my oil-finished Cirrus 5 is developing a nice divot between the pups. I trim my thumb nail aggressively before each gig; it seems to slow the "erosion".

I'm not sure. I sent Cliff an email but tells me he didn't install them. I haven't had the back off yet so all I can go by for the moment is what I hear. They're both 3 way switches which currently have settings of normal/off/very quiet and thin for each pickup. I don't really feeling like taking a screwdriver to this sweetie right now so I'll just leave both switches on "normal" and ignore them :smug:

The thicker neck and the 0 fretboard radius are two things I probably wouldn't have ordered on my own but after having played this one a while I love those features. It feels very solid and very comfortable to me.

Yea I guess I should join. Happy New year to Cliff and all CB Bass enthusiats. Cliff Built this Bass for me this year

and I picked it up in th beginning of July. Since then I hae been plying the bass nonstop. Needless to say it's my favorite and I have a very nice selection of basses from which to choose. Anyway I had grown acustomed to using this bass primarily for the Jazz stuff that I do and my Roscoe Century VI for the Gospel stuff. Yesterday we did the Gospel Brunch at the local House of Blues and because they were videoing the performance I Brought along the Bordwell as I was going to send Cliff a clip of the performance with the bass in that venue. I was going to play it for a song or two and then play the more agressive stuff with the Roscoe (to be fair the Bordwell is fretless and the Roscoe is fretted and the gospel arena generally lends itself more to fretted instrument) - I could not put the Bordwell down it sounded so sweet. Played both sets fingerstyle with the fretless exclusively. Cliff builds one hell of a bass!!!!!

Welcome to the club, I have you in at #16! Your chambered is one of the nicest I've seen!!!!!!!!!
It was one of Cliff's chambered basses that I first came across a few years back when I was looking for a builder. If you can post the clip here or on you tube I would love to hear how she sounds. I recently gave into GAS for a fretless as I love the sound so much but sadly I've come to the realization that I am AWFUL at it, which should not have been a surprise as I've only been playing 3 years now. So my new Stambaugh may come out of the closet where it currently hides from me and go up for sale as I can't justify keeping an instrument I don't play. :crying:

That was mine. I ordered it from Cliff around March or April of 2006, and it arrived January of 2007. Great bass. I sold it because my dog had some large vet bills and I wasn't really playing with anyone at the time.

I tried to buy it back, but the guy selling it wanted more than I sold it for (it had an owner between us). It's a great bass. While I would still like to have it back, I decided that I am just going to have Cliff build me a new one, which I believe he may have just started - It's scheduled for a delivery at the end of March or beginning of April.

So as a former owner, a more "pure-blood" owner as I ordered directly from Cliff :), and someone who will have number 2 delivered in roughly three months, can I be a member? I think we are up to 17.

Oh, I added the mini-switches to that bass with the Darkstars- they give a low frequency cut a la Rickenbacker, as the DS p/u can be MEATY.

I had to take the tape measure to it because I couldn't believe it's actually a 34" scale but it is, sure enough.I'm not sure why this baby has changed hands so many times this year but I'm sure glad it found it's way to me. The Darkstars sound great to my ears and the bass overall is certainly the most growly of any I've played. I LOVE growly!!

Attention fellow Bordwellians...

Who's using Delano pups and/or Audere preamps? Let me 'splain. I'm thinking of upgrading my passive CB with a custom config'd Audere and have 4 available knob positions. Here's a couple of possibilities:

Volume / Blend / Treble / Bass

Volume / Blend / Stacked Treble-Bass / Stacked Hi-Lo Mids

Audere offers a gazillion options but I don't want to drop any bucks on features that are of limited value. The bass sounds great as it is, I just want to goose it a bit.

Hey guys! Just noticed this thread and thought I'd show my beautiful new CB D Bass (probably familiar to some!) It's extremely light and compact feeling, and plays like a beast!
