Apologies for the serial posting, but HELL, I've got a new toy!

Still not got her plugged in, but first impressions....

Beautiful to behold....
So Light!!
The Neck carving is superb..
Zero Fret = Winner

It's really quite strange, now being able to hold rather than looking at .jpgs!!

Pics will follow, sound clips if I can get my Laptop working again.

On the subject of clips, anyone used Propellerhead Record?

Finally! It's worth the wait right? :bassist:

Here are more images from Tom on the body shaping and contouring. Oh, I finally decided to go with the bloodwood fingerboard over the ebony.

Joe

It'll be interesting to see how the redwood with these two different neck woods compare. I have a redwood top but went with the ebony. Here' s the latest pic from Tom of the completed and finished body. He had to go back over the top to get the crazy grain under control but I think it looks just amazing. Hoping for shipping next week. :D

Hey All,
Well I've had a good 4 hours constant fun and games on #177.

I'm astounded! I don't really know where to begin, so lets start at the top.

The ZERO Fret. What a winner! Open or fretted, the strings have the same timbre, or at lease so much more so that on every nutted Bass I've played.

The fretboard & Frets: No Buzz, beautiful figuring on the board (only noticed that after hour 3, I stopped and though, thats a NICE bit of ebony!!). Action is great.

The neck. Its a very asymetrical cut, but it feels so good!! It's a bit wider than I'm used to, only having played 4 for the last few years, and slim 5's and 6's before that, but I'll get there. Tom said there may be some neck dive, not that I've noticed!! Balance is fantastic

The Body is beautiful, the flame is great, the spalt is great, the ash feels great. It's SOoooooo light!! THe finish is super smooth, like glass.

The Electrical bits (or Gubbins!!): I think its quite obvious where my pickup placement inspiration came from!! I was a bit apprehensive that the tones available would be a bit limited with that config, but how wrong was I? There's a massive range of sounds in there. And the tonal difference between bridge and neck is super. Got them wired with Vol - Blend and the blend is really smooth on transition between the 2 pups. THe Aguilar OPB3 is just perfect for what I wanted to, REALLY aggressive if you want it to be. I can see why some find it a bit rawkus, but I love it!

So anyway, my fingers hurt, but it was so worth it!!

Tom the Magician strikes again. Anyone on the fence waiting for that next bass?

Do yourselves a favour and contact Tom. A 100% diamond geezer, and a superb craftsman.

:ninja::hyper::bassist::D

WOW! That is, as you say, an amazing top! Congrats! I did digitally alter a picture to suggest a fretboard possibility to Tom. A three piece ebony/bloodwood fingerboard. He said it could be done. However, I went with the straight bloodwood. The would be sooo cool looking.
