Interesting! I have ever only played one bass with anything lower than a B-string, and it wasn't producing anything useful down there *FOR ME*. I'm sure it takes some work to get used to and being able to utilize that range and to make it sound good. I'm sure Tom's bass will achieve it, though, i've never played a bass he made that doesn't perform like a charm. :)

I've not tried the 7 band in any form. I have the 1000-12, tewlve band head, any there's no hiss issues with that.

From what I can tell, Trace have had a rebirth from their Gibs0n run days are are back on top of the game. (I assume this is a new amp?)

The Guys at Trace have been very helpuful and prompt to deal with, so if you do have an issue, talk to 'em direct

Yes, this definitely brings things into perspective for me. I can see why you would want to place your pickup so close to the bridge considering the tension of your strings and your desired timbre. Indeed, you must play with an extremely light touch! You also must crank your gain way up on your amplifier!

Your setup has me wondering about the amplitude and intonation produced by your low F# and B strings. Such low action combined with a rather "loose" tension would seem (to me) to result in either a very low volume or the pitch shifting quite a bit after the initial attack. It also seems that you would not hear any of the lower harmonic series at all...not that this is a bad thing.

I love the elegant simplicity of your bass and am very interested in learning about your experience with it. Nothing like having some complete stranger asking you all about a bass that you have not even received yet! ;)

Thanks for the interest - much appreciated!

You are right, I have an extremely light touch... I literally try to make sure that I barely stroke the strings in my right hand and that I just do enough to fret the note in my left hand and nothing more. This gives a perfect feel (for me) between both hands.

I use a Trace Elliot GP12 SMX Head (all transistor setting on the blend - I don't like valve...) and the gain is around 7 out of 10... with very little use of the graphic. I use a Trace 1 x 15 cab (250w) and a Trace 2 x 10 with HF Horn for the top end (200w)...

The 7-string is completely passive with just volume and treble cut. I'm a strong believer in sound comes from the head to the fingers without any fancy eq'ing... (But that's just me, I guess...)

I can hear all of the range of the harmonic series on all strings and the scale length does not affect anything at all, neither the finger attack (for me)...

All y'all have such beautiful instruments. Really. I wonder what Tom is doing with the Kim. What electronics package, etc.? Gorgeous instrument to say the least. Marvelous top.

Hey folks,

After a very enjoyable 1st weekend with 177, my fingers are sore, but I am over the moon with my Clement. So much so, that I'm planning on trading in my 'wick $$ so I can grab either #164 (the bass that started it all off for me) or the 6 banger Kim with no home. :bawl:

So, for those of you interested, heres a few pics out of my camera and a couple of links to some clips. I've not done the clippy thing before, so if the site requires you to register to listen, or is otherwise a bit pants, please let me know and I'll find something more suitable.

The sound is all from the Bass.

The 12 bar clip came out of my Warwick Blue Cab 60, into an M-Audio fast trak pro, and then into Propellerheads Record.

The Funk Clip was straight out of the bass into Record.

So the quality is all Tom's! (Record is an AWESOME bit of software though!)

As for trading in the Wick, I have not played a neck as nice as Toms, and I know the wicks are known for a nice neck. I have always had to fight to get comfortable with the wick, but 177 just wants to fall into my hands and be stroked! Also, I should get a decent price on the Wick, which will go a long way to funding its replacement!

Electric Shoes! I thought they were bits of Grey detail, never knew they went neon under a flash!!

So many enjoying our new Clement basses. Great clips, nice pics and smiling faces. Here is a call for help. Richnota, Mr. Walker and anyone else that owns and plays a Clement PIEZO bass. Thinking of building an Anne solid or chambered 1.5" thick. Do I go for the Bart xxM56c one pickup solid body or the chambered w/PIEZO and mag blend? :help: I have never played a PIEZO bass before. I am finger style orchestral style player into 6 string basses only. What does the PIEZO do for the bass and what does the chambering on 1.5" do? Mr. Walker you said Anne "behaves differently" than a solid body. What do you mean by that? What is the best wiring configuration for chambered mixed electronics. Passive or active? I run my "other" fretless passive without any concerns. Will 1.5 inches of chambering be worth it? I love all the posts so far but thought there might be update thoughts. What i need is to test drive one!! Thanks

Thanks again for the information. As far going passive with a simple volume and treble...you are certainly not alone. I am somewhat surprised that you are able to hear the fundamental on the lowest strings considering your setup. Interesting. Keep us updated!:cool:
