Club Clement: Part 2 (post your basses here)

Oh, I also setup a small recording studio in my home office. I’m not sure if I should really use the word 'Studio' but it should serve my purpose (casual hobby) nicely. I am waiting on an iMAC i7 27" system. All the reported screen issues made me hold off a little while on pulling the trigger on the MAC. Believe it or not, the pictured system is running off a new MAC Mini that I upgraded myself to a Solid State Hard Drive.

Your observations tell me that this pickup is wired in series. Parallel would be an option if the pickup had four lead wires. The Q-Tuners are actually noise canceling in either parallel or series mode. The Q-Tuner would only induce noise if one of the two coils was isolated.

This pickup sounds clearer to me in series mode than most humbuckers sound in parallel. Amazing! It really makes the acoustic nature of the Clement stand out.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware of the series/parallell issue. i bought the pickup originally because i was wanting to try it out as i was so unique in itself. I was amazed at what it produced, even from a bass like the relatlvely cheap Cort Curbow bass. I passed the Curbow on as a project with the original pickup and electronics, and kept the Q-tuner... and it was THE natural choice for this bass. i mean, this is one very special instrument all together, what is more natural than putting the coolest mic ever in it? *lol*

Thanks for your kind words, the playing is just noodling around, but the bass is a keeper, I definitely do agree! As are my other Clement basses, too. :)

I shouldn't shoot any photo of my den.... it's ... well.... messy would come to mind *lol*
The only thing that is not messy is my rack of Clement basses. God help the poor dude who mess with those!!!

Hey, Anyone running Nord faststacks in their Clement? I just ordered some in 114mm X 38mm size to take the place of the Q tuners in #122. It is not that I don't like the sound but more of experimenting. I have always wanted to run Fatstacks.

So you're the lucky owner. Man, I gotta tell ya...that is one of the most beautiful basses I have ever seen. I remember seeing that bass at Tom's web gallery a while ago. I do not mean this to sound silly, but the copper colored Q-Tuners fit the wood selection perfectly! I couldn't be more serious. It must look even more stunning in person. If you are happy with the tone you are getting with the Qs on that bass, you might want to consider trying the Nordies out on another bass. Tone comes first in my book, but it doesn't hurt to have a killer looking bass either! :bassist:

Thats a beautiful set up, I so wish I had the space to have my gear set up permanently! Its a bit of a pain in the arse, as I have to set up everything each time I want to record and arrange stuff, space is at a premium 'round my gaff!!

I did just lay my hands on some Sennheiser wireless cans, which cuts my cable clutter down a bit, and means I'm not tied to the sound card any more!

Have you used any of the propellerheads software (Reason and Record)?

Looking forward to hearing 183 laid down! :hyper::hyper:

Thanks. I have not used the propellerheads software, In fact, the last time I recorded was back in the mid-1980's on an analog Tascam 4-track cassette deck.

I am a recent convert from the PC to a MAC. Apple Logic was the easiest way to go. I really feel like a Caveman using the software and still can't believe some of the stuff that is now possible. Recording is just one of the hobbies that takes my mind away from my day job.

Thanks, I do feel blessed to own this bass. I do agree that swapping in the "fats" for the "q's" is aesthetically suffering but swapping is such a snap and reversible since they are the same size that is will not hurt. Then if I do like them they can go into another bass, but right now I do not have such an instrument nor the funds I need to build "the one" - another project is cooking but not feasible at this time regrettably. A man has got to do what a man has got to do.
And yes it is stunning to behold and yes it is all about the tone. I don't imagine the "fats" will stay in it. As any woman I know will attest to - It is always fun to try on another dress from time to time! Just having fun, enjoying the journey.

Just looking for some advice here. I took my ThumbQ-tuner install back to my luthier, he said everything was wired right and he didn't hear any fuzz or hum. I must admit this may seem picky, but I took it home and played it for a drummer friend, and some others that were not musicians. Everyone heard the fuzz, though some stated it was barely noticeable. It still goes away when I touch the bridge. I actually had my drummer close his eyes and tell me if I was touching the bridge or not - he got it right every time. This is mostly and issue when tacit, but when I play open stings, I believe the sound is tainted. Fretted notes seem to make the fuzz disappear also.

This is a very minor issue as far as how it affects the sound of the bass, but it is annoying to me after spending so much time and money on a cool set up, especially after Erno confirmed the pups should be 100% silent. I'm not going back to the luthier because he claims everything is correct, though he did suggest shielding the pups, which I don't think is the problem. Any suggestions? I still think it is a ground issue - should I pop the bridge off and see if there is good contact?

I sure don't want to fan the "Mac vs. PC" flames here on a bass guitar forum, but I have been on Mac since 1987... never looked back.

After weeks of mucking about with various multitrack recorders, downloading codecs, drivers ans add ons for my soundcard. I've finally managed to get a clip together. It's not perfect but it's a start. :D

So without further ado, I give you the debut of #174 :bassist:

I go direct, mainly due to noise and neighbors. I've got a stack of Line6 software amps, cabs and effects in my computer, so I can get a wide variety of noises without the associated space requirements!

No idea on the fretted / fretless question though!
