Welcome M2, and congrats on the purchase.

It was ebay that opened the Clement door for me, but the Bass I saw, wasn't the 5 string that I wanted, so I commissioned Tom to build #177, super light weight Broadneck 5. She's sweet!

After the build, I was so enamored with Tom's basses, I sold my Warwick 4 string, and bought the original bass that got my attention on Ebay - #164. Had Tom swap the electrics for Nordstrand pups and pre.

#164 is without a shadow of a doubt, the nicest playing instrument I have EVER owned. She wants to be played - and who am I to deny her!!

So welcome, and as Mr Walker said, treating yourself to a custom job, start to finish, is a fantastic experience.

Thank you for posting your picture with the bass, because I find it a benefit to help judge the different sizes of Tom's guitars.

Wavey, I think I am leaning towards something like a 5 string version of #164 -I haven't played a single cut yet, but I am attracted to the design and based on your comments and youtube vid it is making me seriously lean in that direction.

Quick question-on such a light bass is there any hint of neck dive-at least w/ the Jon design?

And you should allow yourself the treat of doing a complete custom project from start to goal. It's just a fantastic opportunity!

Oh, and I wanted to say that if Brian recommended those Delanos to you, you can rely on them being good. He's a very nice guy and never failed to give me solid advice that fulfilled my expectations completely. I think Tom and Brian are two of the most valuable assets to the bass community in my search for great tone (I'm referring to me personally...). I have a lot of good things to say about Mike Tobias and some others, too, but that is mostly in a more general perspective. But Tom and Brian has really helped me find my tone and get my tonal needs satisfied. :)

Thanks for the feedback. It sounds like I am in good hands :D I am leaning towards the Delanos. I have the MM style Delanos in my Human Base (the one I want to replace w/ a 5er C bass) and I really like the tone. And the Ristola stamp of approval gives me confidence.

Add me to the list of Clementophiles who found Tom via eBay.
About 2 1/2 years ago, I searched "custom bass" and a couple of Tom's basses popped up. IIRC both were singlecuts. Even though I'm not a singlecut guy, I looked a little further and found his website. I looked through the galleries and saw some non-singlecut styles that really appealed to me.
I sent him an email expressing my appreciation for his work and within a few weeks, I sent him a deposit and commissioned #94.
I had some decent $$ coming in from the sale of a very substantial 40+ YO collection of sports cards and I knew I was going to indulge myself with a new bass. I just didnt know where it was coming from.
Little did I know....................

That, my friend is at my church. We do a few different genres. So, therefore I have a lot of music transcriptions to keep me on track because we may do a hymn from the 1800's and then a contemporary song, then jump right into latino, bluegrass, southern gospel, black choir piece, etc. Very challenging.

That beautiful bass is #196, thank you. It now has 3 knobs (volume - treble-bass) for the OBP-1 preamp I installed; and it has been defretted. A very pleasurable, expressive instrument.

There is no neck dive on the Jon when played on a strap. If you play seated without a strap, the lower horn on the Anne and Lise shapes is designed to be totally in balance when sitting. I do lots of playing sitting without a strap, and the two last mentioned ones float on your lap. The jazz, Jon and Ryan shapes are more traditional in that respect. However, none of them dive when strapped on.
