Can you say, "subcontrabass"? Imagine it strung C# F# B E A D G!!! :D The C# could be as much as a .254 diameter. I don't have plans to do this but I could. Talk about a tonal beast? (I do have a .222 diameter string hanging on the music room wall).

Tom, you make lovely instruments. I have a question for you. Is there a difference in any way between your headstocked basses and the headless that you are now doing. If it's been covered before, I apologize. I read through a bit of a ways back and there was no mention. Thank you in advance.

Yves Carbonne and his Jerzy Drodz signature 12 string fretless? Awesome instrument and player. I am not interested in the plain steel strings it takes to make that one, though. Stew McKinsey and others also masters. Now, back to the future....:hmm:

Well, I have to admit when the neck at the nut is not only wider than my hand, but also my face.. I'd have to concede defeat.. I may want a 7 string one day, but a 6 string fretless Jon as near as possible to being a 6 string clone of #248 would come before that.. and way better money would come to me before I do any more lol.

This is #249, with an amazing claro walnut body and a maple neck with a birdseye maple fingerboard! Look at that beauty!

And by the look of things, #254 will become a stunner, too! This is the so called "Charity bass"! :-)

I think Tom might have missed your question, nagarjuna!

As i'm having Tom build me a headless instrument right now, I think I can answer it... there aren't any huge differences between the headless and the headstock instruments. Neck profile and body shape is pretty much identical, except some of the headless basses have a little deeper area around the bridge to accomodate (and protect) the tuning bridge.
