Hey everyone, got all the specs done and the down payment off to Tom today. Now the wait... Tom told me to come here so I can commiserate with everyone.

This is my first custom build, what a great experience. I'm a total rookie, Tom had me thinking about things I never considered before. I learned a lot this week, Tom is the Man!

Here are the specs, the pickups will be positioned closer to the Bridge, the Neck J-PUP will be set almost in the center of the body.

Type: 5-String Fretless
Shape: Phoenix
Scale: 34"
String Width: 18mm
Body Wood: Limba
Body Top: Myrtlewood (View 4-12-11 Myrtlewood Phoenix)
Accent Veneer Under Top
Neck Wood: Limba
Fingerboard: Diamondwood
Neck Pickup: Bartolini "J" 57CBJD-1 Centerpoint=29 7/8" from Nut
Bridge Pickup: Bartolini "Soap" XXP25M Centerpoint= 32 1/8" from Nut
PreAmp: Bartolini HR5.2AP/918

.... is it done yet?

Hey Xerogh,
You came to the right place! When Tom starts sending you the updates tho', it's worth the wait ;)
Your specs sound familiar..that Myrtlewood top is gonna be sweet!
Welcome aboard!

Thanks, and yes familiar it is (Bass5str pointed me to your #262 pics this evening). Tom must be lovin' that Diamondwood, I never heard of it until he showed me a blank. The bass started off totally different but evolved and evolved and evolved over the last few days. It's been very cool doing a custom config.

What kind of PUPs are going into #262?

Keep those pics comin' we'll do a side by side when mine is done.

Sounds like an awesome bass you've put together there!

BTW, anyone lacking a number, PM me! :-)

Man!! Looking at all these new basses you guys are getting sure makes me a little jealous!
It was about 4 years ago that I came into the fold. I had some $$ on hand from selling off a HUGE sports card collection from the 1970's to the present and after taking care of a couple of bills and buying some stuff for my kids, I decided it was time to get myself a NICE bass. I was nosing around on eBay and saw one of Tom's spec basses. It was a singlecut so it didnt really interest me but I went to his website anyway.
He didnt have quite the range of body shapes that he does now so I went with a traditional Jazz shape and things took flight from there.
Every year around this time I get the itch to get another one but with 1 kid in college, 2 more entering high school and other bills pressing, now's just not the time. Believe me, I have visions of 3 or 4 different basses dancing in my head but it'll be awhile before anything actually happens.
But I definitely do enjoy seeing the progress pics of all the new basses being built-thats for sure!

Wow didn't realize it was 4 years already....

Tom- yessir it has! My join date here on TB is March of 08. You were the one who directed me here while we were discussing and you were building #94- heck my first TB transaction was buying the Wilkinson tuners you used on my bass.

Latest progress pics of #257 just in from Tom. Just some final tweaking on the fretboard and she will be finished.

Xerogh: They might be related :D !!! 262 is getting Bart/Bart. Tom and I decided to place them in a rather traditional location since I won't be doing a lot of slapping, instead more relative to a melodic style of playing. I'm really cranked about that Diamondwood (see Pitbill's pics), it ought to be ideal for what I have in mind.

Pitbill: Lookin' good, Bro

First let me say a huge "thank you" to all of you who post here, it gave me a lot of info and really helped make my decision to work with Mr. Clement. That said #267 is my official number...a 6 string fretless Jon with a spalted maple top and diamondwood fretboard, Bart PUs and Pre. Now I just have to hurry up and wait!

:help:(drool)

oilfieldtrash: Looks awesome in the new pick, that Myrtle is 3D'ish!

The fingerboard with that top is gonna be a great mix. I'm glad Tom steered me to the Diamondwood, A) because it looks nice and B) I beat the crap out of fretless necks with the heavy plucking and slap. This bass will be so much nicer than what I have, I shouldn't need to work the tone out of it playing like an animal!

Hey Xerogh!
Yup, Tom is saying that the Diamondwood is a sweet ride. I've also heard others say the tone is rather unique unto itself. I'm looking forward to seeing what he comes up with on yours :D
He's done nothing less than amaze me with his work!
