Tom, the "whites" are clear in that you can see the round wound string under the wrap. I have used and have black and white and the whites are brighter in tone. The whites are slipperier to the touch but you get used to that. Does that help? Brighter tone was the mission accomplished I do believe.

I have just completed my 10th gig with #325. Really staring to bond with this bass. The last 2 gigs I left my Status in the bag. I really like the sound more everyday. A lot warmer than I am used too. I have received a lot of compliments on the tone. Weight and balance are really working out well. I haven't had any major back or neck issues since moving to just playing my Clement. I am very happy with this bass and glad I took the plunge-

Hey cirrus4string, what model Status do you have? Just curious, as I've owned a couple over the years myself.
Hmmm, looks like an S-1 to me, but maybe a one off with that single pickup. I'm not an expert though. Kind of surprised Rob Green at Status didn't get back to you, he's usually very helpful and communicative. If you're still curious and want to know what model it is, check out the forums at Invalid Link Removed. Some really knowledgable and helpful folks there that could probably tell you what model it is, and probably its approximate build date.
I had an older Series 2000 for a while and then a Kingbass. Both really well-put together instruments, but ultimately not my sound preference, and I couldn't get along with the body size and playing positions. Fabulous necks and stability though.

I decided I wasn't satisfied with my first set of knobs, so decided to make some "top hat" styled knobs instead.
