Very different. So I took my 68 P, and the Darkstar through an SVT-AV and ashdown 2x12 cab. 68 P sounded the warmest but the darkstar hung in and I like the hotter output. Very smooth sounding pickup. I'm very excited about taking it on the road this weekend and giving it the real test.

It's strange, in my experience it doesn't sound that different from a standard split coil, just a bit angrier!
I found that getting the pickup poles down in the pickup makes it sound sweeter and smoother, mine are recessed about 3mm on the E and G and 2mm on the A and D, it really helped tame the the highs and made it sound a lot warmer IMO...

no, I just take out the essential part of the "bisonic" and try to make it easier to fit and adjust
Obviously you have heard the Dark Star. How does your pickup compare? Do we need to PM you for the price? Thanks, they look really interesting.
Just finished recording a new demo for my function band using my darkstared jazz!
The first three songs are the new ones, recorded using a VT bass using minimal amount of compression.
I think both pickups full on for Living on a prayer and Billie Jean and neck soloed fro the other two.
IMO best recorded sound i ever had! Especially sweet child of mine...
(strings are new rotosound 45-105 nickel)

I was on linkedin today and Fred Hammon popped up in my "People you may know" section. I clicked on the website and it's gone... Register.com came up. this may be old news to some, but it seems to indicate that there will be no more Darkstars from Hammon Engineering.

Who knows - we can only guess it's something's happened that's way more serious to him than making interesting guitar parts. I doubt he'd have dropped it the way he did without a good reason. I wonder how many unfulfilled orders he has?
I'm curous as to those other Bisonic replicas the guy is building on this page. I thought part of the original tone came from the actual spatial area the pickup takes up under the strings? The double-magnet design is unique, but surely it senses more string than just a single coil with two magnets.
