JWolf...I have used Circle K for the last few years on my Elrick EVO SC and other basses.(i really like them!!!)...0.118 set for my 6xers...but I just recently switched my Elrick to Fbass strings to try them out as the Circle K's are not designed for string through bodys...so Iam left with two options at the present...FBass strings...or Fodera...this is in support of my new AC6(in production soon)
Im really digging the Fbass strings but having a difficult time working with tensions...probably just a matter of time before I really dial them in!
Quick question....Does Alan Caron use Fbass strings??

I just cut them to size and lay them flat on top of the pickups. Most of my other basses have plastic covers, I don't bother with those but I always put a screen protector on the slap area to all my basses.

FWIW I loved the F bass strings on my AC basses. I preferred XL's or high beams on the BN's but the F bass strings were magic on the Caron's.
My wife got me this DVD for my birthday last Saturday...

I'm sure this question has been asked and answered a few times out of each of the 10 Fbass club parts but the search function has left me without 1 hour of my life and no answer to my question.
I have a 34.5" BN5 born in Feb 1990 and it has been my main bass for 14 years. I have found that FBass strings are really the best option for me but would like to try to explore some other options. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has spent a bunch of time and money trying others out and was wondering if there is a general consensus as to what alternative to FBass strings works best on a BN5 to maintain that fat / crisp modern tone?
I just read a few posts down that Dean Markley XL's are decent... Fodera taper B standard .045-.125 seems like a close match??

I have gone to Fodera Stainless light gauge exclusively and could not be happier with them.
No general consensus as far as I'm aware. Some of us have experienced problems with exposed core strings in general and use standard full wrap strings exclusively, I being one of them.
The best thing you can do is use as many different brands as you can and then zero in on the flavour you're looking for. I use R. Cocco steels with my BN5 Studio and love them dearly.

It is made by Levi, it is a very thick leather with a big F logo where the F logo should be...
But instead of being all black with a white F logo, it is a beautiful tan with black edges and a big, black, F logo. It is PERFECT for my AC6 classic.
I didn't even know they made non black Fbass straps. Very cool.
I'm not sure there is a consensus. For years I have been using Ken Smith Slap Masters, Ultra Light, on EADG, and Fbass for the B string. They are very soft and light and sound good, but when I run out of my store of Ken Smiths I'm going to try something else.
I've used Fodera on my Foderas, but didn't stick with them. I'm thinking maybe nickle on the BN5 next time, maybe Sadowsky.
They have a couple of colours.. red, beige, brown, black, but I didn't know about the strap that your wife got you.. That's some strap.. maybe she had it specially made for you by Levi or something... But certainly will look gorgeous on your AC6 Classic...And just in case you didn't know, my name is Al....

A 'yup' on personal experimentation. Not that there was anything wrong with F strings, but I wanted to see how others would sound on my BN5. R. Coco, Fat Beams, SIT Power Core, Sadowsky Black SS..... Finally settled on Fodera Anthony Jackson's - only come as a 6 string set, so I've been saving the C to garrote my wife's ex-husband.
Same process (though with different strings) on my BNF5. Ended up sticking with the F strings.

You have extra C strings? I may be interested in taking them off your hands.
Some of my basses will probably always have Fbass strings, like my BN6LE replica and my fretted AC6.
Other basses I use Fbass strings on, but would consider trying something else like my 60s spec VF5.
I'm about to try Fbass strings on my ash and maple Fodera, which I haven't done yet. It has nickles which I really like, but the steels before it had a meatier, grindier, nastier tone that I miss.
