I know MVPbass has more than one F, but man, it would be hard to part with a looker like this:

I know I'm in the minority here, but personally, I really dig the look of Fbasses with a little "road rash". :)

I guess if you've got mac ebony shells you might want to preserve them for as long as you can, but the film takes away from the look IMO.

Today's roster update welcomes 74jb (1974 Jazz bass?) and his beautiful BN4 to the club. Welcome aboard!

I just really noticed your screen name, and francoprof to me mean professeur de francais... hahaha.... and it's true that these screen protector things are a super great idea, and we all want to preserve our F's as pristine as possible, so every idea is worth a try... :hyper:

Ima have to disagree. I know I'm of the minority here but I bought my FBass to play it and play it I do! I've never been one to try to keep it prestine because right from the start I knew I was going to be my gigging machine. The regular gigging takes its toll on my bass and I'm ok with that. See pic:

In addition to the p/u covers being scarred it is littered with cold weather cracks in the finish. You know what? It still sounds and plays awesome and I have a hard time finding anything to replace it. It's still my favorite out of the 6 basses I have.

Interesting point. There are plenty of guys who buy new basses "reliced" so they look road worn. George has even made some reliced basses I believe.

I've always thought Jaco's beat up Fender was so cool looking.

I don't use screen protectors on my basses, but I am great about wiping them down after I play them and that probably helps keep the pickup covers pristine.

I first heard of the screen protector idea in 2006 from Brandon Wong (club member #6). Of course that was before smart phones existed; he used screen protectors from palm pilots or iPaqs if I remember correctly.

At the time I was intrigued but didn't bite because I didn't know if it would affect the sound, and I didn't know how clean they would come off. I didn't want to be leaving residue or worse, pulling off finish when I removed them.

It's a new world now though so I think I'll try pickup covers on some of my basses at least

zortation, muthafunk, I don't think you/we are in that much of a minority if at all.

Conversely I don't like pristine mint basses - I just don't feel comfortable with them and I hate to be worried/distracted about the possibility of scratches or dings when I'm trying to concentrate on the music.

Having said that, of course I take good care of all my basses, especially when it comes to the back of the neck, but all the bodies and headstocks of my basses have naturally acquired "road rash", except for my reliced VF5 which is George's handiwork :-)

I'm sure there are about 1,000 related threads on TB, so I don't want to labour the point... each to their own eh?

Today's roster update welcomes sha975 and his very impressive BN6 to the family.

The ALDER body (and maple tone block) are just beautiful!

I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my Fbass fretless AC6 and as soon as it is in hand I will post pics and get my name on the club list. The pics in this thread (and the 9 others) make the wait almost unbearable. Will post pics soon.

J

Yeah, I can't wait to see it, although I've seen the picture on your Facebook page... I cheated... hahaha...You'll really enjoy this thread because everyone in here has at least one F bass, and they are very helpful with any questions you may have. We're a whole bunch of people who really enjoy their F's and are proud to post them and talk about them... hahaha... So when is the delivery supposed to be???
