Club Fbass (Part 10!)

Definitely interested in checking out these new cabs as well. George has had an el whappo in the shop for some time now, and has been touting Tecamp recently, so I'm guessing anything he would put his name on must be able to seriously hold its own. That being said, as a Tecamp user, I can tell you that my tecamp rig sounds ridiculous with an F bass. Match made in heaven.

Tom what Demeter amp are you using, the tube amp (VTHF300M) or the HB600 hybrid head (HBP-1 with an attached poweramp)? That 300 watt tube amp has been on my lust list for years, probably the best sounding bass poweramp I've ever heard...
I'm using the hybrid head:

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

And I would describe my tone with the Demeter head and Accugroove El Whappo as celestial bliss... with a back ache. My cabinet weights 88 lbs and the head in the rack isn't petite either, but once this rig is there, and that tone fills the room... I become the undisputed alpha male in the room. :smug:

So you write "rig." That means you have TecAmp amp and speakers?

Do you have the Combo 210?

Puma_combo210f.png

Or the S210? Or the M210? Something else?

I'm using the Puma900 and a 4 ohm M212 cab. I did a review a little while back of the Tecamp gear and fell in love with it. The S212 killed, but was a little too tight down low for my tastes (coming from the the el whappo i used for years), and I don't like the particular need-set of a rear ported cab, so I opted for the larger, front ported M212 sight unseen. Nailed it. Perfectly fat and balanced tone top to bottom, just enough of the right type of coloration for me, beautifully made, loud as $#!T, 44lbs.

I originally bought a powersoft (older 2U version) puma500, then swapped it for the new puma900 and I couldnt be happier. I still have a rack rig with a Demeter HBP-1 (the top half of your HB600) and big QSC amp, an LMII and a pair of tri112's, but the tecamp gear is stunning beyond expectation, and gets 90% of my gig time. Now my only problem is that I'm jonesing for their 55lb L410 ;)

Hey guys.
I sold my Maple top BN5 to get the Cocobolo BN5 that was for sale a couple of weeks ago. Anyway, I got it yesterday and when I was testing it I noticed that the bridge pickups wasn't "working" but it had a center detent. Long story short the bass came with vol/bal instead of vol/vol, I'm not complaining, I actually prefer it like that but I just want to make sure it came like this from the factory... This bass is sweet!! I also picked up a VJ5 in black with a Badass bridge and a pickup cover, can you say Marcus? :D

Here's some pics, maybe one of you can tell me if it came like this from the factory or if someone modified it along the way.
Thanks!

That looks like a factory blend install.

I truly hate to steer any attention from that beautiful bass, but I've been thinking about the new Fbass cabinet.

I need a smaller, mid range rig really, so I'm willing to give the Fbass cabinet a try, but I'd want a light weight head to go with it as well.

I know a lot of guys here like the Tech Amp Puma 500,

but the TC Electronic RH450 won some great awards and endorsements when it came out in 2009 as well.

One reason I lean TC is the EQ presents. When you like to gig with several basses, it is really nice to be able to QUICKLY find the right settings for each bass. After all, you've kind of held things up a bit as it is with the fast change of basses, I really don't like to add to the wait by making do with fairly generic settings -- especially when I know a better tone is within reach of the gear.

Currently I use either a pedal with patches set for certain basses, or I use a small modeling amp (Roland) as a preamp and out it to the bigger rig or PA.

The pedal is huge and a pain though, and the Roland is far from perfect.

I'd love to have a preset for my acoustic sounding AC6 Classic, one for my ash bodied BN5, BN6 and Fodera, and then keep the third as always being tweaked for my BN6 LE replica or AC6 Signature.

TecAmp makes the two channel "Bonafide" (Yes Richard Bona uses this amp)

TecAmp is not popular like Markbass or Gallien in Russia at all. Never heard about them before. You write they are awesome. So is it a better choice then Genz Benz or Markbass heads?

Oh, man. How did you install GK-3B controller with this metal thing? I was trying but couldn't.

привет !

It's pretty easy actually : the 2 felt covered metal parts sandwich the body with tightening screws. Nothing scratches or affects the bass at all. The only «damage» is the adhesive that leaves a marks when you remove the pickups (can easily be removed with liquids such as GooOff). The result is a bass that sounds beautifully as is (FBass tonal palette is crazy, you know that) but that can be enhanced when needed with the help of the VB99.

Cheers !

hard to say. All of those brands are wonderful, and they each provide different flavors. I'd say in a nutshell, Tecamp tone is more smooth, glassy and refined than MB or GB, with a more thicker/rounder low end (IME, YMMV). but it all is relative, and I hesitate to make any blanket statements about tone.. and it all depends on what you're going for.

Looks like they got my bridge in sooner than expected. Ship date around the end of August. Here is a teaser shot from the glamour shots Marcel is going to do, more to come I'm sure.
