...the TC Electronic RH450 won some great awards and endorsements when it came out in 2009 as well.

One reason I lean TC is the EQ presents. When you like to gig with several basses, it is really nice to be able to QUICKLY find the right settings for each bass. After all, you've kind of held things up a bit as it is with the fast change of basses, I really don't like to add to the wait by making do with fairly generic settings -- especially when I know a better tone is within reach of the gear.

Currently I use either a pedal with patches set for certain basses, or I use a small modeling amp (Roland) as a preamp and out it to the bigger rig or PA.

The pedal is huge and a pain though, and the Roland is far from perfect.

I'd love to have a preset for my acoustic sounding AC6 Classic, one for my ash bodied BN5, BN6 and Fodera, and then keep the third as always being tweaked for my BN6 LE replica or AC6 Signature.

Hey Tom, the TC RH450, (or RH750), would be the most convenient amplifier on the market to use if it weren't for its fundamental tone! It has an inherent high frequency cutoff that just can't be bypassed... I wanted to love that amp... no need to take a seperate tuner, it has a great quality DI, and of course the EQ preset capability... etc

Alas, I just can't see it being useful for anyone wanting to amplify anything near a modern sounding instrument!
(This coming from a guy who plays a Fodera through a Sadowsky SA200 99% of the time).

I truly hate to steer any attention from that beautiful bass, but I've been thinking about the new Fbass cabinet.

fcabinets2.jpg

I need a smaller, mid range rig really, so I'm willing to give the Fbass cabinet a try, but I'd want a light weight head to go with it as well.

I know a lot of guys here like the Tech Amp Puma 500,

Hey Tom,

Have you looked into the EA (Euphonic Audio) amps. I'm running a "Doubler" amp, and it's perfect for the modern bass, and the second channel has a EQ specifically aimed at producing a beautiful string bass sound. Might be worth a look at also... just my .02 :) .... Ohhhhh.. yeah!!! Whatever you decide on, let us know how that cab sounds... I can only imagine that if George & Marcel put the "F" name on a cab, it must be a killer sound and even more when their F basses are put through them....

This is exactly how i feel about it as well. The TC sounds like there is a blanket on my bass. Also, IMO EQ really isn't needed that much unless its to fix the sound in a weird room. Those Fbasses all sound great and I bet they need little EQ at all. Most gigs, or most of mine at least, can be done on one bass. Whatever you decide, let us know how the cabinets sound!

Now i havent tried the Puma 500 but I have played the TC head...i found it to be very sterile, non linear, non coloured sound, yet definetly had its own voice/sound...I think TC has mistakingly made a head that sounds muffled/flabby when they were in pursuit of warmth.I was also playing it through a 4x10".

if you get a chance, ..youtube Esperanza Spalding: I have watched a few videos of Esperazana whom is using a TC head...and another videos where she is using an ampeg SVT /810 video...if you can view these..this is the best example I can give.
sorry if im not much help

Also, there is a TB member ...i think its KJung...he has a bunch of videos working with Puma/Markbass/bergatino/ stuff..
Ive got my mesa carbine M6 combo up for sale to buy a Puma 500 and a new Fbass 2x10

Hey guys.
I sold my Maple top BN5 to get the Cocobolo BN5 that was for sale a couple of weeks ago. Anyway, I got it yesterday and when I was testing it I noticed that the bridge pickups wasn't "working" but it had a center detent. Long story short the bass came with vol/bal instead of vol/vol, I'm not complaining, I actually prefer it like that but I just want to make sure it came like this from the factory... This bass is sweet!! I also picked up a VJ5 in black with a Badass bridge and a pickup cover, can you say Marcus? :D

Here's some pics, maybe one of you can tell me if it came like this from the factory or if someone modified it along the way.
Thanks!

Actually, I have not looked beyond the TC and the TecAmp, so I'm very glad to get these suggestions.

I remember reading about the Euphonic and was very intrigued by the string optimized channel, because that is the main thing I have the most different EQ for. Thanks.

The new Glockenklang Blue Soul is also a 2 Channel amp...
Thanks, I'll research this too.

I just did some quick searches on the Euphonic Audio Doubler and the Glockenklang Blue Soul. First, Pretty much the entire first 2 pages of search results for the Blue Soul was in German. And when I got to Euphonic Audio's website, the white on black writing started my eyes to watering and I left the site.

I wonder why businesses don't bother to do the steps to see how they REALLY appear to their customers. Anyway, I'm still researching and thought I'd pop back here for a quick whinge. It's out of my system now.

You make some really good points here. When I'm playing with a cover band, I usually like to nudge my sound to be close to the recording everyone is familiar with, so I'm not necessarily EQing to dial in the best tone, but the truest, if that makes sense.

But the EQ for my AC6 Classic really is a lot different from my other basses, so that's the one I'm most interested in accommodating if I do opt to get a 2 channel amp, or one with EQ presets.

I was playing my BN5 NYC through this head twice. I know exactly it's not my cup of tea :) It's comfortable to use because of memory settings, but I didn't like the sound in a whole. Tastes. :)
Wow! I haven't seen a single person advise me to go TC!

It reminds me that I read in [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].

Not much help? That was great! Ken (KJung) videos are a good idea too.

George (in an email awhile ago) recommend I look at a TecAmp Puma 500.

And Marcel (in a more recent email) recommend I look at the Puma 900 and Black Jag 900. I'm not sure which TecAmp would make the most sense for this particular cabinet.

With all the time that George and Marcel spend at NAMM, and the opportunity they have to audition everyone's gear with Fbasses, the fact that they are pretty high on TecAmp makes them the front runner for me -- if I decide not to go with something that lets me switch EQ settings near instantly.
