You know, I have another blue bass... it has a maple board and I love chrome on it. It's a great option, especially with a maple board.

Hello fellow Fbassers! I wanted to share the news of my new bass with anyone interested.
It's a BN6 with medium weight ash body. The medium weight seems to balance the frequency spectrum nicely, and it's good for ergonomics!
Exotic tops are beautiful, but I've found that I get the sound I want without them. I think the ceruse finish looks so cool anyway.
The neck is five piece, aged 5 years, with figured maple and bubinga stringers. I travel quite a bit and and wanted maximum stability without resorting to graphite, which imho kills the organic sound and response. The nut width is 51 mm instead of 54. I could have gone even narrower, but it feels great. The neck has an extra slim profile. Best 6-string neck ever!
Flame maple fingerboard, one of the prettiest I've seen without giving up tone. I asked that they use a hard piece.
Standard Fbass preamp. Why mess with a good thing?!
Hipshot ultralite tuners, because i am allergic to neck heavy instruments. The BN series is already one of the best balanced basses, but any 6-string needs any help it can get. The Hipshots actually feel more solid and precise than the standard Gotoh.
It came with Fbass strings which sound good, but are a bit light and flexible for my taste. Every instrument is different and I will probably try Ken Smiths and R Coccos as well, except for the B string. LaBella Super Steps (which Fbass strings are based on) is the only B string I've found that you can slap and still get a 'piano' sound instead of the clank of a rod.
I'll post a YouTube review with some sound examples as soon as I get a moment.

Lovely instrument. You might also want to try the Fodera Anthony Jackson strings. They've become my BN strings of choice - after having tried KS and R Coco, amongst others. Entirely subjective, of course.

I'm not sure if you guys are familiar with David Hughes (swedebass), but I have all 3 of his solo albums and LOVE them. I mean really love them; they are among my favorite albums by bass players. His playing is very good of course, but is also so tasty and with great tone. Another thing I like about these albums is they aren't just great bass music, but great music.

I first noticed David as he played for David Benoit -- such great music. Then as I got to know more about him, I realized I had heard his bass playing elsewhere.
From his about page:
David received his first important break when Wayne Henderson of the legendary BN5 asked him to join the band. Other credits include Chaka Khan, Melissa Etheridge, Burt Bacharach and Connie Stevens and Ray Manzarek of the Doors. He has played on countless sessions for TV shows such as Baywatch and The Defenders and for films such as Firehouse Dog and Old School, in which he also appeared.

I considered it but passed on it, partly because of the hefty extra charge but also because I prefer to keep a consistent feel between all my instruments and for easier slapping. I may experiment with an 18 mm spacing bridge and see how that works, but since the pickup pole pieces will be misaligned it may not be a good idea.
Heh, i didn't even know that was an option. Oh well, I'll keep it in mind for the next one
Hide?! Not me. If you are saying what I think you are saying, then I would order this bass just as it is. I ordered them, I'd show them loud and proud. I like the look of this bass a lot.

I think I have come to a Point of Evolution. I have been a 4-String player for years (and years and years!) I've made the jump to 5-String about 10 years ago, but came back to the Humble 4-String because I found no real advantage to having the "B" -String. As of late I've found that I like having the Big "B" available. And the Skinny "C" isn't a bad thing to have either! And with lines, I really enjoy playing Fretless as well!
I really love my BN4. It is amazing. But I think I may have outgrown it, and should look for a 5/6 string Lined Fretless.

Then one night after having watched Anthony Jackson play his 6er on a DVD, I found myself reaching for a D on my B string -- which, of course, my 4-string bass didn't have. I was stunned. I ordered my first ever 6-string bass not long after and have primarily played 6ers ever since.
However! I definitely do NOT feel I have "outgrown" 4-string basses, because I'm not even close to being able to do what I feel I should be able to do on bass if I put the time in.
To the contrary, one of the big reasons I like 6 string basses because to me they are easier to play. I get to play across the fingerboard instead of up it, and that helps me compensate for not learning my bass as well as I should have by now.
For example, on a 5-string bass, I can move across 5 strings and get 2 octaves of playing out of it without as much thought as it takes me to do that traveling up the fingerboard.
I now own 4-, 5- and 6-string basses, and to keep myself from going completely crazy I get them all with 19mm string spacing so I can move between them with a minimum amount of readjustment.
i dig the narrower nut...but I ended up just going with a narrowed bridge...My AC6 will be 16.8mm...I really like how the strings dont vary much from Nut to Bridge...very consistant feel... My old F seemed to be alot of right hand work at 19mm for me...then I was able to borrow one on my profs F's...which are all 16.8mm...and I was blown away....stuck on it ever since...so much for buying one off the shelf now...Dam you Stu....LOL
