Also, I needed a bass that can cover a lot of ground...and this FBASS (Odin) can cover a lot!!!!....I primarily play Jazz but this will cover classical, upright tones, fretless vibe, funk, even classic rock cover band that I play in....It can slap too...but I rarely do that!!!

With no gap between the finger board and neck pickup, slapping would be tricky but doable on that bass I'm guessing, because the action can be so low.

THANK you for doing that. You were the first person I thought of when that question was asked, but of course I have no way to point him to my CDs like you could right there.

I remember years ago Marcus Miller recorded a song on one of his albums with a BN5 as well, but I cannot remember which one.

Hey Guys, my BN6 is up for sale. I haven't gigged with it since I had kids....and I'm not turning out to be the 6-string god that I thought I'd end up as....played too much upright bass for the last decade, so in the interest of letting someone else play this bass more frequently....

Ash body, maple board and 70s pickup positions? Or alder body, rosewood finger board and 60s pickup positions? It makes a real difference in the string recommendations.

That makes sense... your BN5 is ash and maple and must sound pretty close to your BN6. What are the specs on your new VF5?

The new VF5 will have swamp ash body, 5 piece bubinga/maple neck and Birdseye maple board. 34.5" scale, 18mm string spacing, 70s PU position, brown burst no pore fill finish, Hipshot ultralite tuners.

The main reason for me to have a 5-string at all is politics; a lot of people react negatively when you show up at a gig with the same amount of strings as the guitarist.

Also, this bass should complement my arsenal nicely sound wise.

If anyone has a BNF5 they're willing to part with let me know. I want to see if 5 strings are right for me before I order a custom BNF to my specs.

On Facebook, F Bass just posted an in-progress BN5 Neck-Thru available. I'm guessing a buyer may have backed out.

Nice. VF5s are usually 34" scale length, I like how you made yours the same as your BN6.

Wow, I would never have thought that would happen to YOU. I got that a lot in 2002-2008 ish, and once in awhile today, but almost always it is when I'm doing pop cover stuff. I would have thought that the kind of stuff you do would be more open minded. Wow.

Agreed. You probably have no idea how your albums influence me. You always sound so great -- both your instruments and your tasty playing choices. I'm so glad you are participating here where I can learn even more.

While I can play 5-string fretted basses without missing a C string too badly, playing a 5-string fretless definitely drives me crazy. In fact, I've just this week decided to sell my only 5-string fretless.

I love the harmonics on a C string, but I also like how a C string lets me play closer to the nut where playing in tune is easier than up the neck on the G string.

Initially George shipped these basses with Fbass strings, then changed to DR Hi Beams. Have you tried Hi Beams yet?

Haven't tried Hi Beams but just put on some Fat Beams. Basically Hi Beams with more bottom end right?
