Yeah, and also for bursts in my case. I agree tho, on a white bass like this one, dots look better.

I usually don't like dots and love blocks on pretty much everything. I also like the
fretboard completely plain in some cases. But that white body, black pickguard bass just
looks right with the dots.

I started with blocks, never liked them. Got dots, liked them. Then I had an Alembic with those gorgeous oval MoP inlays on an ebony FB and liked that a lot!!! The naked fingerboard of the BN5 has wormed it's way into my heart now though. Love it! (thankfully there are dots on the side of the neck or I would play many more "clams" than I already do)!

I had been working on some other reviews of late, and as such I've been playing mostly review basses at practice. Last night, I took out the VF5 and played it for most of the night. Man, it sounded and felt great! It's like falling in love with an instrument all over again! 
I am not sure if I love the DR Fat Beams on there, though. The upper mids to highs aren't quite as clear and present as I would like. I'm thinking maybe Hi Beams the next time I swap strings.

I know that George is a big fan of the DR Marcus Miller strings... I've yet to try them on a VF5. But he uses the MM strings for E-G, and the F Bass B string.
And I know what you mean about coming back to an instrument. I sometimes play one of my three my Fender Jazz basses for a bit. They always sound good and feel ok, but when I go back to an Fbass it's like someone took the training wheels off!

I've played the Marcus Miller strings before. They are really slinky and flexible. I can see why Mr. Furlanetto likes them.
Currently, I'm trying MMs on my Alleva Coppolo, and loving them enough I may never try anything else...
But on my BN5 I have Ken Smith slap masters for EADG, and use an Fbass string for B... not because I dislike the Ken Smith B, or the DR Marcus Miller B for that matter...
But because I REALLY like exposed core strings for B strings. Having that thick ole B string bending over the saddle just isn't as appealing to me as having the exposed core over the saddle. The exposed core B strings, for me at least, play better, feel better, and sound great.
In other words, for some of us, it isn't that we dislike the B strings of string sets, it's that we really like the exposed core B of the Fbass strings.
WHEN (not if) I get an ash and maple VF5, I'm definitely going to give MMs a shot on it. However, for the alder and rosewood VF5 that you sold me, I just love it too much to mess with the formula. It will probably only have Fbass strings on it until I die, or until I have to give up bass playing, whichever comes first.I know that George is a big fan of the DR Marcus Miller strings... Yeah I like the oval dots too. I've always thought that the Petitucci inlays were awesome.

speaking of those MM strings, I am really loving them on my ash/maple DJ right. They smooth out the mids really nicely, and I love the way they feel. If I had a BN5 or a VF5 I'd definitely be giving them a try.
By the way, Bass Junkie, that fiesta red VF looks insane. That color with the tort guard sets off that whole bass incredibly well IMO. I wonder what it would look like in satin?

My VF5 came today. I haven't gotten a chance to play it much, but it sounds GREAT so far. I'll post pics and some more thoughts later

I'm planning on ordering another VF4 when this one is finished and I'm kinda torn which way I should go. I've been considering the ash/maple Marcus Miiler type, but I've always been more of a alder/rosewood guy. So I'm thinking more along the lines of ordering another alder/rosewood in a different color(Seafoam Green) and putting a BadAss bridge on it to give me more of the funk/modern vibe.
Does anyone know of any exposed core strings other than the F Bass strings? I'd like to try something different on my AC4.
