I agree with the "smooth" comment. If I still played 6's with a wider spacing than I'd own an F bass. I had one for a while and it was killer, but I really wanted to put different pickups in it. They were too smooth for me. The playability of the bass and the preamp were worth the price of the bass though so switching out the pickups wouldn't have bothered me. Great basses.

edit: Joe, you have two now? Damn! What's the other one?

i was kind of waiting til it showed up, (itll be here on friday), but i have a new factory second on the way. here it is

If I were to get one it'd be exactly like the one that just sold in the classifieds....amazing....all black/alder/roswewood.....that had THE look for me!

Joe, making the spacing more narrow didn't change anything sound wise even though the strings weren't aligned perfectly with the pole pieces? How far off did it make it?

didnt effect it all. with the between string spacing being 16mm all the strings, it doesnt look that far off. i did that 17.5 mm on the duncan duals though too and it didnt make a difference. im sure people will tell you otherwise because of the science, but as picky as i am and saying it doesnt make a difference...............

its 3 inches at the heel and ideally id like a little narrower, but with the narrower nut and what has to be a narrower last fret than the fodera, it feels MUCH less boat like. the stambaugh will be pretty narrow though. 2.75" at the heel and 1 5/8" at the nut.

So my AC5's serial number sticker is starting to peel up at one edge. Might be because it wasn't positioned perfectly when it was applied, but I'm not going to try to pull it up and reposition it now. The numbers themselves aren't very dark either - kinda hard to read.

So does anyone else's bass have this problem? Why does George use these "stickers" anyway? Seems a little odd for this caliber of instrument. I don't get it...

He's got new stickers that are a lot better now. The serial number is pressed into the basses now also.

You can request an inlay though.

Hmmm. I bought the bass from George early this year - it's an '08 model. So he's upgraded the stickers since then?

And by "request", I assume you mean "purchase", since his website shows that as an option. It may come to that - I love my bass, and George does fantastic work, but the sticker just doesn't cut it for me...

I'm not a fan of the old stickers as well, and I've thought about other ways to get my serial number onto the bass in case any of the stickers were to come off.

BTW, I don't think I'll have that problem on my newest Fbass however:

First of all...the new F 6 looks amazing. Congrats. One of the most wonderful looking basses I've ever seen.

Secondly, what's going on with the construction of the headstock? It looks like the headstock is glued onto the neck blank (I don't remember the term for that construction method), but the grain of the maple matches up perfectly....very interesting. Does anyone know what George does there?....this is just out of pure curiosity.

Does this help:

The bass was damaged in shipping, came back to George who fixed it, then I bought it as a factor second.

Uh, WITH the HARD SHELL case by the way!
