Very nice....I've never understood the nut being wide at all, especially the Fodera's. The only argument for it that I've heard is that people had gotten used to the spacing of the strings on a P or J bass and wanted to replicate that on a 5 or 6 string....that still doesn't make sense to me. Either way, I think the way that George went on the VF5's was a great decision.

man i picked up my p bass the other day with a 1 5/8 nut and the strings felt so far apart i was tripping out. i guess if your used to that, the opposite would feel cramped. my favorite 5 string nut width is a 4 string p bass dimension:D

I have the opposite problem, because I find fbass string spacing to be fine on the lower strings, but the higher strings feel way too cramped. After playing several basses over the years, I prefer a centre to centre spacing, which means a 1 7/8" neck for a five.

While I can comfortably play the 1 7/8 spacing at the nut, anything I order new will have the 1 3/4 spaced nut. I have smaller hands and do prefer the slightly tighter spacing.

I found it.

In an email conversation I had with George Furlanetto about the two part plexi finger ramp for my VF5, on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 11:01 am, George wrote, "...Regarding the ramp, the bass Hadrien and Nathan East are playing IS Dominique’s. That is a narrow string spacing VF5, hence narrower pickups and that is why I was able to wrap it around the ends of the pickups. So the solution is to get another ramp between the bridge and bridge pickup."

Then later on the conversation, on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at 2:51 pm, George wrote, "... Dominique’s pickups are much narrower than the standards, so it would make the edge of the ramp (thumbrest line) much farther out than the pickup edges."

no mention of what the bridge spacing is? im guessing 17.5 or 18. it doesnt look that narrow.:confused:

What's the normal spacing at the nut on a BN6 anyways? The one I played felt nice- maybe 2 1/4" or something- but it was a long time ago so I'm not sure. Most companies make their nuts far too wide on multistring basses IMO. I had the nut made to be 1 7/8" on my Elrick fretless six-string last year, and I've found that to be a perfect size- so much so that I'm considering replacing my beloved fretted 6 for one with a narrow nut like that.

The nut on my Ristola 6 is 2" so ours are very similar. The string spacing center to center at the bridge is 16.5mm, and I think I could do even narrower. The bass feels so good to me this way.

As an owner of two redwood topped, 6-string Fbasses, you might guess that I really like this look on a six string bass. :) In addition to the flamed top that you did in your mockups, (and like my fretted AC6), there is a burled top that you can get as well, like on my fretless AC6.

No Custom Headstock on the VF-5? That is absolutely awesome by the way...with the ability to make pictures like this, how do you ever get anything done? I would just be making the pictures all day :hyper:

How about a picture of a Lake Placid blue VF-6 with a tort guard, pickup cover and 60's pick-up spacing? (Maybe my next bass after my BN-6 gets here....)

It's an olive top with custom inlays, custom headstock veneer shape, ramp, recessed straplocks, and an A style bridge.
