Club Fbass (thread 13)

Challah bread? Huh?

Challah bread is a famous type of Jewish bread. The neck kind of reminded me of it. Don’t ask me why. (-:

Transparent sea foam green! I think with the birdseye and the trans finish it will be a nice mixture of vintage/modern look.

What did you get? And what model?
Well since you asked.....
VF5 jj 70s position
Ash body/ flamed maple 21fret board with blue luminlay side dots w black outer rings
19mm spacing with a bent plate bridge
Rear routed electronics
Pale blue burst, black grain enhanced w gloss sheen
Black hardware w strap locks.
Sorry but you asked ;)
As I said to you before, there's nothing sweeter and more torturous than waiting for your Fbass build to be completed.
Trans sea foam was one of the finishes I was thinking of, its so beautiful, but everything else on my bass was modern so I went with a modern finish as well.
Special thanks to Bassjuju for his detailed comparison that took away any last inclination to get nostalgic and get another Fender jazz, but to go for the JAZZ Bass of my dreams.

No need to apologize man. Reading other peoples build specs is practically my version of pornography... ha!

Sounds like a sick build! I love the pale blue burst because you pretty much get two finishes in one. Bass either looks blue or purple depending on the light!

So pretty much you’re getting this, minus the 24 fret?

That's pretty much it! A few less frets with a flame and luminlay on the neck.

No you'll be enjoying your beauty long before me. I just placed the order just over a month ago. The waiting has just begun. You're so lucky to only have 8 weeks to go. So did you go with a white or tort pick gaurd?

Dude your wait isn’t going to be as bad as mine was. Production times speed up post namm show. I’ve been waiting since early September. 8 months by the time I get the bass.

This bass was the inspiration for my build. 2017 Namm piece. But I thought it looked empty without blocks and binding so I am literally getting an IDENTICAL body with ash tray, just with a decked out neck with birdseye, pearl blocks, neck binding and maple serial.
Just picture the neck I sent on this body.

That's awesome! That's so funny cos that's exactly the bass I was contemplating (without the pick up cover) right til I placed the order. With the enhancements you've added, it's gonna be spectacular!! When you say identical, are you including the neck pick up cover?

Identical. Pickup cover, bent plate bridge. Knobs, etc.
The only thing that will be different is the natural grain of the wood.

Another important aspect is I requested 18mm, with the neck pocket thinned out to follow suit. 19mm is too wide for me.

You will not be disappointed and I can’t wait to see this one. The green one too. The only problem is now I want 2 more F’s.

Do you notice a big difference with the 18mm? I've always been afraid to go with a smaller spacing because all my other basses are 19 and felt that switching back and forth would be awkward.

To me personally I notice a massive difference.
To each his own I suppose. I have rather large hands and I still prefer tighter spacing.
I used to play lots of Warwick’s and Ibanez with 16.5mm so I’m used to the tighter spacing. Never had an issue slapping or any restrictions whatsoever.

Also, it’s not just a difference of 1mm. Between 18mm and 19mm.

There are 4 string spacings on a 5 string bass. The difference in the width of the neck where it meets the body isn’t 1mm. It’s 4 mm or almost half a centimeter. About a 1/4”. That’s a rather substantial piece of architecture on an instrument, where space is a premium.

19mm is standard on a 4 string. A lot of dudes prefer that geometry on a 5 string bass. But, keeping that spacing comes at a cost of a substantial increase in the width of the neck.
