Club Fbass (thread 13)

Today, I noticed something that I think gets overlooked too often.

2 Sundays ago, I played a Gretsch on one of the songs that I thought would benefit from the hollow body’s tone. It did and was a beautiful song. Neck dive is an issue with that bass and I knew this. The strap I used had a lambs wool pad and I had to keep a hand on the bass somewhere to keep the neck from dropping toward the floor a la Johnny Cash.

Fast forward to today and I’m playing this wonderful fretless F Bass pictured above because the bloom on one of the songs was the perfect tone. I noticed during one of the breaks that I let go to warm my hands and the bass stayed perfectly balanced and rock solid in playing position.

I’m betting that this was part of the original engineering and design considerations. I wonder how many attempts it took to get the balance just right?

Maybe it’s just a little thing, but it’s all the things like this that make me a fan and I suspect many others here as well.
I hear you juju. What does it for me(and I suspect many others), is that you're starting from what many would consider a perfectly designed bass. Then, any changes to the basic configuration you want to make, Marcel and the crew go the extra mile and a half to make your bass exactly what you want. I'll elaborate on that as my build commences and continues. For me that's what make me an Fbasser for life!

Props to George for going with an original design an not just slapping together a jazz bass. His success is a testament to how great a design it really is. Then, you throw in the fact that it’s all hand crafted and finished in-house with proprietary pick ups and electronics, matching shells and covers...
What an awesome bass!

Further, the fretless models aren’t just the same design with the wire yanked out. They are designed from the ground up as a fretless. I loved my BNF5, but, my BN5 is sooo great, it’s hard to play anything else.

That was the first thing I noticed when I first played my BN5, it felt like a headless bass to me, zero neck dive.

Congratulations! Although I hope you realize this is step one of a three step FBass GAS process.

You get one FBass model, in your case a BN5. Then you start seeing everyone posting VF and AC models, and they start calling your name. It starts as a faint whisper and later will become very loud. :D

OMG!! That’s so true... I bought one and now have 3.

@Jamster that’s a sweet bass in one of my favorite finishes. Grats!

Hey guys and gals. I'm not an F Bass owner, but I have a long-term plan that involves F-Bass. So, long story short, I'm currently playing Kiesel Vader basses. I dig them, but my all-time favorite bass that I've ever owned was a Dingwall ABZ. I had some shoulder issues that made playing extended-scale basses painful, so I was forced to move on. I had surgery, healed up, bought some "standard" scale stuff, and ended up with the Vader's. Once my shoulder healed and all the pain was gone, I started longing for my old Dingwalls. Did some research, saved some money, and now I have four Dingwalls on order. It's gonna be a while, but I can't wait!

So, what does this hafta do with F-Bass?

Well, Once the Dingwalls start rolling in, I'm planning on selling the Kiesels, BUT, I still want to maintain a "connection" to mono-scale, parallel fret basses. Now, I could keep a couple of the Kiesels, but where's the fun in that? I'd rather scratch another itch I've always had, and that is to own an F-Bass! Ideally, I'd like to have a BN5 and a BNF5, but we'll see where we're at after I finish paying for these Dingwalls, LOL! So, If you guys are ordering new, who are you going through and what kind of lead time are new F-Basses? Also, if you wouldn't mind, how about posting some pics? Thanks for letting me ramble!
