Club Fbass (thread 13)

I haven’t “built” one from scratch, but I’ve bought two directly from Marcel at F Bass. To me, that’s the way to go. If you discuss your goals and desires, he will have make sure you get the right options. Also, their customer service is off the charts.

I would think lead time varies based on what’s on order etc... and I’m sure someone else will be along shortly with a range that’s average. I’d also call Marcel.

I’ve never played a Dingwall, but F Basses are amazing. So much nicer than all the others I’ve played.

At least in the United States, you can only order a bass from a dealer in your state. If your state doesn’t have a dealer they do direct.

Hey guys and gals. I'm not an F Bass owner, but I have a long-term plan that involves F-Bass. So, long story short, I'm currently playing Kiesel Vader basses. I dig them, but my all-time favorite bass that I've ever owned was a Dingwall ABZ. I had some shoulder issues that made playing extended-scale basses painful, so I was forced to move on. I had surgery, healed up, bought some "standard" scale stuff, and ended up with the Vader's. Once my shoulder healed and all the pain was gone, I started longing for my old Dingwalls. Did some research, saved some money, and now I have four Dingwalls on order. It's gonna be a while, but I can't wait!

So, what does this hafta do with F-Bass?

Well, Once the Dingwalls start rolling in, I'm planning on selling the Kiesels, BUT, I still want to maintain a "connection" to mono-scale, parallel fret basses. Now, I could keep a couple of the Kiesels, but where's the fun in that? I'd rather scratch another itch I've always had, and that is to own an F-Bass! Ideally, I'd like to have a BN5 and a BNF5, but we'll see where we're at after I finish paying for these Dingwalls, LOL! So, If you guys are ordering new, who are you going through and what kind of lead time are new F-Basses? Also, if you wouldn't mind, how about posting some pics? Thanks for letting me ramble!

FBass dealers are well vetted by the company, and if anything comes up FBass is great at helping out directly. That said, because of how close I am to them and my artist relationship I’ve always gone direct, which I’m pretty sure is an option for anyone. Marcel is very thorough and easy to talk to. I think currently the lead times are still very reasonable for a build like this in the market...4-6 months? But don’t quote on that...talk to Marcel. Pics are all through this thread, go back , take a look. Here is my current VF.

Still, one of my favorite F’s.

Lead time depends on when you order. If you order beginning of winter after the namm show your build will be ready in 4-6 months.
If you order in the summer your build will be delayed due to namm.
I’ve been waiting close to 9 months by now.
Build is officially ready in 2 weeks.

George and Marcel are the nicest dudes you’ll ever talk to or deal with. Their builds are phenomenal and they offer lots of customization options. Definitely recommend.

@pbass6811

Long time. lol I paid fully by the end of September 2017. By that time, they were prioritizing their NAMM builds, so mine was set aside.

It was only begun in January. However, my bass is being built by George himself, not the team. So that was an unexpected bonus. Right now the delay is awaiting a custom string-thru bent plate so they can mark the appropriate spots for drilling. Then it’s off for painting (Lake Placid Blue with a Tort pickguard.)

It’s not supposed to take much longer after that stage.

Nice. I don't want to get to far into your business, but if you paid it off by the end of Sept. '17, when did you start the process? I've been quoted 5-6 months build time, which seems long, until you realize that ordering a Canadian Dingwall is around an 18 month affair...Oy.:nailbiting::nailbiting:

I may end up with a new FBass before my Dingwalls get done...

I started sending my payments around the end of June / early July. The whole time I was in contact with both Dave @ Ultimate Basses & Marcel @ FBass to iron out all the build details.

I just deal with the waiting time because I already have a BN6, so I know I will eventually have a quality product. Marcel provided me a few progress pictures along the way which eases my excitement.

That said, I completely understand builders would have a considerable queue for their works, as you referred to Dingwall. Also in my wishlist is Jerzy Drozd whose builds take about a full year according to another TB’er to whom I had asked a number of questions. I’ve read that Carl Thompson basses have 2-3 year waits and then a day arrives when you receive an official phone call from Carl to confirm everything.

I also understand that NAMM is a critical time period for all builders to showcase their best work.

Okay, so who else has an order in for a 40th Anniversary P/J? I played one at NAMM, and absolutely fell in love, so my deposit went out last week.

In fact, we liked it so much, we put a picture of George holding one on the cover of the Invalid Link Removed :D

So, yeah, I did a thing...I got a little jealous of @mikkoantt, so I this is on it's way to me...

I'm hoping it shows up before my gigs this weekend, but I'm stoked even if it doesn't...

Time to start selling some other stuff, I don't think it's gonna get played much. ;)

Crazy how we’re all just doing the same thing in different parts of the country. I was just drooling over that bass on the BSD website.
Congrats!

Thanks. Yeah, I was thinking "I can wait to get this", then I remembered how popular BSD is, lol! I almost got the Charcoal Burst one, but I've been jonesing for a maple board, so...

The best part is this doesn't interfere with my Dingwall savings plan at all...:bassist::D
