Club Fbass (thread 13)

Thanks for the feedback. I don’t feel the seam as I’m playing so not such a big deal. I did notice there is a tiny bit of movement in the neck pocket. Not sure if it’s related but on of the washers underneath the screws that bolt the neck on is looses. The bass still plays and sound incredible but I am thinking I might send it up to F bass one day for a once over. I also kind of want to put gold hard on her.

This roster update welcomes Igotsoul4u and his new BN5 to the club!

I may have told you this before, but if you ever think about selling this bass, please make sure I'm aware of it!

What can you tell us about the pickup placement and the body woods?
Thanks @Tom7 I’m more of a bass hoarder, not a seller. But I’ll absolutely keep you in mind. lol

The body wood is standard; nothing special. I looked through my emails but I don’t have a specific note on the pickup placement. I just put faith in FBass to use their expertise in this build.

Can you tell us a bit about the custom carve features that are intended to help with your carpal tunnel syndrome?
So, typically, the thicker (front to back) a neck is, the easier it is on carpal tunnel - as a rule of thumb. Some players may disagree.....but....Less squeezing distance that the tendons etc need to move to fret notes. However, mine is a tad more problematic - as my ulnar nerve also gets inflamed and causes me to lose even more dexterity. So, George and i discussed and he is doing what Marcel said was his sweet neck - its got meat behind E, A strings and tapers to a thinner D, G shoulder area. Sounds like awesome-ness too me. I left it up to him entirely - infact the stock neck felt fantastic as it was - but then the discussion, and GAS and well....you know what happens...... ;)

Interesting,I have a bulging disc in my neck and I've found that thick necks aggravate it,my ring and little fingers become numb after playing for an hour.Different medical conditions require different neck dimensions I guess.

So happy to be in this club. I cannot stop playing this bass. I haven’t had many instruments deliver like this F bass.

Some years ago this band of young guys recruited me to play with them until their regular bass player returned from an extended assignment overseas.

As we rehearsed, they were very complimentary, which I assumed was them being nice. Then the compliments turned into overtures along the lines of, "Would you be interested in replacing our OLD bass player?"

The thing is, they were a cover band. The notes I was playing, and the other bassist, were almost certainly very similar, if not identical. So why the strong preference for me?

Some of it was personal (being easier to work with), but nearly all of it was my sound as I played the lines.

Of course much of that is in our hands, our playing technique, but they were also responding to the great tone from my FBasses. They just loved how the music changed overall with an FBass under it.

I used a 60s configured VF5 for some songs, and a BN6 or BN5 for others. And for songs like "Unforgettable," I used my AC6 Classic to very closely approximate an upright bass tone.

In short, I had a bass that fit every song's style, and the tone was audibly more desirable than whatever the other bassist used.

I didn't stay with those guys — I had too much going on — but I never forgot how (once again) my FBasses basically got me the gig.

Here is my BN5, I am loving it ;-)

Because our club roster has grown to be so long, I normally try not to put two updates on the same page, but today's an exception, I guess.

This roster update welcomes Eneade and his BN5 to the club. Nice photos, by the way.

I own a number of basses I love, including an FBass BN6, FBass VF6-PJ Fretless, Fodera Emperor Standard 6, Greg Curbow Petite 6, EBMM Bongo HS6, & Warwick Thumb BO 6. My guitar player always tells me the BN6 is his favorite.

Funny. I am currently recording one of my bands albums. The bass player came by to do some overdubs. I of course have to show him my precious. He plays it for about two minutes and promptly asks to redo all his parts with the F bass. I of course have no problem with this! The bass records incredibly. I ran it through a Great River preamp and a Buzz Essence optical compressor. All i need to do is bring up the fader and the BN5 sat so perfectly in the mix. Well...of to play for an hour or two!

I am playing tonight at Philly Joe's jazz club in Tallinn. FBass BN5 through my Glockenklang stack - wow, what a sound! Pure honey! Huge lows while the mids and highs are clean and sharp. The bass creates such a nice basement for my 7-piece jazz-funk band. I love FBasses!

My new(to me) F Bass BN5. I bought this from the original owner who custom ordered it in 1994. 2 piece flame maple body, 5 piece flame maple/wenge neck, pau ferro fingerboard. 34" scale. It has some pitting on the hardware, otherwise not a mark on it. I've already found a same model NOS gold Gotoh bridge in Europe that's already on its way and will change rest of hardware to match. Put new F Bass strings on it and it plays like a dream!
