So this is a rare video of the FBass BNF5 Fretless in action! Playing through a Gallien-Krueger Legacy 800 into a Genzler BA210/BA410 stack. I put the 210 on top, since the stage is already pretty elevated and I didn't want to send all the bass over everyone's heads. I actually really like the 210 on top!

So, I LOVE this FBass BNF5! It's so warm and full sounding! I generally keep it W.F.O., as was recommended, but I will back off on both volumes(equally) as necessary. I cut a bunch of EQ from the amp. I'm also using a Chorus setting on my Boss MD-200. I'm still working on my intonation, sometimes my brain farts and I get a lil lost, and I still love sliding around way too much, but this bass is just INCREDIBLE.

Feel free to ignore the social commentary and the questionable note choices...

Well I’m finally able to post a picture of mine after nearly 3 months. Welcome my BN5 to the family. The finish got damaged during shipping and I finally found someone that could spot treat the ceruse finish on it. It’s finally home. She sounds and plays amazing.

Today's roster update welcomes OKanaganDC and MattB88 to the Club! I believe they count as our first "babies" of the new year!

Three months?! That would be frustrating!

For me, exposed poles are aesthetic, they look BEAUTIFUL, but I have my doubts about them affecting the tone of a bass compared to the tone of full wooden pickup covers.

If pickups were microphones picking up SOUND, then absolutely exposed poles would sound different.

In that scenario, wood pickup covers covering the pole pieces would be the bass equivalent of having a pop filter between your vocalist and the mic — only the bass tone would be more muffled because there wouldn't be holes to let air pass through.

However, magnets don't pick up sound, they *create* sound — in conjunction with the vibrations of a metal string.

The vibration of the string is affected by makeup of the string, the age of the string, the wear and gunk on a string, the bridge, the body woods, the shape of the neck, etc.

That vibration then interacts with the pickups which are magnets creating a signal that is affected by the winding of wires inside and other internals like a preamp, if present.

Putting a wooden pickup over the pole pieces don't change the tone characteristics of the vibrating string, or of any of the electronics downstream.

The only thing I could see possibly being affected is the strength of the signal, but that seems unlikely — and if it were happening, an active preamp would boost it.

But hey, what do I know?

I thought Milli Vanilli was really singing those hits of theirs in the 1980s!

@Tom7 .. Well, it's not blue, but I did pick up another F Bass recently, my 2nd in the last 6 months. A Sunburst BN4. Compared to some of the F Bass finishes out there, this one might be considered a "plain Jane", but every time I played it in the shop dating back to last July or August when it arrived, I knew I wouldn't be happy until it finally came home with me.

The only difference from "stock" is that it has a blend knob instead of V/V. And I really like the added touch of the notched knobs for both push/pull pots, which makes it easier to grip.
