Club Fbass (thread 13)

Sorry for the late addition. Your BN6 Replica is very interesting to me. I have #7 of 9. A club number is coming soon; I'm just paging back to get everyone.

Sorry for my late answer too!
Thank you very much for the addition.
The replica is the brownburst one you can see on many pics on Alain website. It is a killer bass that I keep with the exact action and Setup that Alain Caron had on it. It has an integrated roland pickup with separate midi output that also convey the magnetic pickup signal. The B string is amazing. Very great P sound with the neck pickup soloed, and Alain signature sound with both pickup. Very very different from the bn6 that I also love.
Nicolas.

yeah I’ll be curious as well. I typically like maple boards, and my other main Basses both have maple boards so I thought I’d try an ebony board and see how I like it. I know I’m not a huge rosewood fan, as it feels a little slower than maple in terms of snap, but ebony still has the quickness I like. we shall see!
How’s your new BN5?

Its really great. Feels a couple lightyears more dialed in terms of fit and finish than my early 00's BN's. And the neck is slim and fast with a nice satin finish. The tone is killer, especially clear and focused in 1st position and below E. I am not (and nevr have been) 100% sold on the F bass Labella strings, so I'm gonna pop some Pure Blues on there and see if they feel better. the highs are a bit clanky with too much lower treble push, and I prefer the upper treble air/snap thing.

But all in all, very very happy camper over here :)

Found me a REAL nice BN5! Cant wait to get this sucker in my hands....

I'll just go with this photo, Jake. Congratulations to J.Wolf on his latest FBass: a BN5 with a Macassar ebony fingerboard and an ash body.

Surprised to hear about the highs...with the ebony FB, I’d think it would deliver what you like.

it tracks for me as far as my experience with ebony vs maple, but I also think alot of what Im hearing are the F bass strings, if my memory serves. I really like the taut feel and focus of the lows, but I prefer the feel and tone of more flexible nickel plated strings. I'd be curious to try some Kalium Hybrids on this bass too..

I went around the horn and landed back on the Fbass strings. Been using them for 10 yrs now.
The overall balance, clear fundamental, and tight bottom are the kickers. The B-string is just outstanding..
Anywho, lovely bass you have there. I hope it serves you well.
Do I remember that you were diggin the Moolon basses?

Hi there! slight off topic but what do you use your Tender Octaver for, having an Octabvre next to it in chain?

I use the Tender Octaver for my Octave Up sound. It is a Pog clone, so I use it mainly for soloing and more melodic purposes. The 3Leaf is my main octaver when I’m playing basslines that need a traditional analog-style octave sound.

Yeah, I have an Ash Maple Moollon JV that is outstanding. Doesnt get much better for me, for a passive J bass. I'd like to pick up a P classic at some point when reality allows for it.

Interested to know the difference in fit and finish compared to your previous BNs ....

the two BN's I had were great basses, but the finish on this one is just killer. I had a nitro BN6 which felt super good but wore really easy and the neck was a bit sticky. And a BN5 with early "crystal" finish which felt really thick. The neck on that one was bulky and with the gloss was a bit sticky as well. The neck on this one reminds me of an AC5 (Jorg Schroeders old one) that had an amazing neck carve and perfect satin finish.

Finish aside, it just feels really cohesive and tweaked over the years to perfection.

Dear BN users,

When do you choose the hum cancelling mode over single coil mode (push-pull) with your Fs? Other than obvious reason for unbearable hum. I'm just interested if anyone prefers the voicing of BN pickups in hum cancelling mode

I've put my BN5 in HC mode, um, never.
Been in all kinds of situations and have never needed it. Lucky, I guess(?).

I only use humbucking mode at a particular rehearsal space that has some nasty electronic interference. Otherwise single cool, baby!
