The volume of the bass is much lower than what I'm used to. I've been advised though to boost the preamp all the way and eq back to taste so I've been experimenting with that.
Yes, I for sure do that. It just took a bit to get used to especially switching from another bass to this one.
Sell the rest, keep the F... no more issue with switching :-D
I'm actually going to be selling my Fender Elite towards a BN5 Deluxe! Just playing around with what woods I want!
That's what I would like! Marcel was telling me though that because the Deluxe pickups use Alnico 2, they are a little warmer sounding so I'm thinking whether to use a maple neck to brighten it up or go with an ebony and have a slightly darker tone with some snap.
I've never tried a deluxe, but I guess you'll want to take something that complement your standard.

The tried and true Fbass BN recipe is ash/maple. It’s likely been designed and has evolved around that combination. I’d be hard pressed to get anything different.
That’s a good video @monsterthompson, to me the maple seemed more scooped and the Mac Ebony had a little more top end. Both were good.

I was trying to avoid listening with my eyes, which would favor the red & ebony, so I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who heard some differences.
I actually really enjoy the Mac ebony sound!
They both sound pretty much a thousand times better than any other bass out there. Gotta love FBass.
what strings do you guys like using with your F bass or do you stick with the Labellas standard in the BN5? I know George and Marcel use the DR Fat-Beams on the deluxe and VF series and I love the DR's!
My stock set of F-bass exposed core strings had a weird warbly sound above the 12th fret (not uncommon and documented in this thread way back). I took them off and used other strings for a while.
I recently bought a new set from F-Bass - less warble, and IMO they do have something extra that works well with these basses. I'll probably keep using them, and I also put a set of super steps on my Pbass.
Fbass balanced set for me. Solid fundamental. Never a warble.
