I got my BN5 just over a year ago, I went through Donovan at FretSpot (no affiliation), the price difference was significant (in favor of using FretSpot). He was great to deal with, as is Marcel. No complaints (except that he used packing peanuts when he shipped the bass to me, and I HATE packing peanuts!).

As for waiting time, I don’t think so, maybe a week at most. It was done a month earlier than I was quoted, which was a nice surprise!

Thanks for this. It seems that it’s the way to go! My closes dealer is NJ Guitar and Bass store. Wondering if anybody has experience with them. Is there a way to avoid paying Taxes on top of the bill by buying from a different state and so on? That would add a large sum to the cost. Thanks!

If I wasn't in the middle of waiting for two US Spectors, that Pale Moon Ebony would be hard to resist! :drool:

I reaally freakin' LOVE me some PME. I do prefer it as a fretboard rather than a full top, but that is, indeed, impressive!

Not sure if it's a reason, but FBass strings are made by LaBella, so they may have something to do with that scenario...?

Yep that! because I have a 2002 bn5 NYC from Jimmy Coppolo's old shop in NY. It was his specs for the f-basses he sold at his shop back then. Mine has the 2x3 tuners and vintage fretwire and the best neck profile of any other BN5 I have owned (4). If I ever get another BN5, I would have George replicate my bass neck for sure.

Ah that’s right. I always forget who else has one. I need mine replicated too. Love it. I miss Jimmy’s shop…

Does anyone know how George and Jimmy originally hooked up, George being in Canada making non traditional looking basses and Jimmy in NYC making dead ringers of old Fenders, seems like an interesting partnership.

I never asked but basically Jimmy had an idea for what he would maybe do with an F-bass BN5 and that was how the NYC BN5's happened. When I bought mine from Jimmy, he told me that he asked George for 2x3 headstock, hipshot UL tuners, vintage fretwire and a specific neck profile. All I know is I am glad I got one of the 5 or so that he had in his shop. I have a black BN5 "NYC", and there was a Forrest green, silver, gold, and an ice blue metallic when I got my black one. I would love to have another one in a different color.
