Club Fbass (thread 13)

I've noticed that F Bass are now installing small aluminum knobs in place of the hand carved blackwood knobs that were once standard. I just saw a recent BN5 build at Long & McQuade's Markham and noticed the aluminum knobs.

Let's hope that this is just a temporary Covid induced supply issue and not a permanent change. Seeing as F Basses prices have jumped significantly recently, especially here in Canada. Now more than ever, it's paramount that F Bass maintain their exceptional standards for their customer base, pun definitely intended. Just my opinion of course.
They still do ebony knobs… I specifically requested (recently) aluminum knobs, to match the hardware/color scheme I was after…

I have an AC6 build in the que, with the standard ebony knobs…think it just depends on model and customer preference. The build quality is still second to none!

Are they ebony now, my BN5 has African Blackwood knobs which used to be the standard.

Now this raised another question for me  if this is a compound radius , what radius the string contour at the saddle must mimic ? 16”? Or some average number like 13” ?
I always set my strings by feel only, never measured a string height in my life, on my BN5 I followed the curvature of the pickup cover and set the overall height to my liking YMMD

I talked with Marcel… warranty issues were troubling, but really I think it was FBass providing customer service above and beyond. There’s onlya few luthiers that do what George and Co. Do for their customers and have the initial build quality.

In addition, customer preference and orders were leaving that way.

I used to have a guy from whom I could order knobs. Looking for another and hoping to order a set from Marcel.
