I went for the two volume controls, more tonal options. With the blend, if you want 60% bridge pick up, by default the neck pick up has to be 40%. With two volumes, if the bridge pick up is at 60%, the neck pick up can be also 60%, or 20%, or 90, 100% or whatever you want it to be.
I know this is a simplification, but should be enough for the point to come across.
