Anyone with a 5 or 6 string Fbass (BN or VF) 33' short scale can comment on the overall sound particularly of the E and B string? also the weight? Does Fbass provide an option to chamber the custom instruments? any experiences?

I think there's an fbass artist who plays a short scale (possibly Karel Honasan?)

As for chambering, I haven't seen one and many F-basses are quite heavy - though people have requested lighter builds. I believe their build app on the site has all the options available, but an email to Marcel will get you a prompt and friendly response with any information you desire

Discussing scale lengths with Marcel last year…they offer more options than what are shown in the online configurator.

thank you guys I already spoke with Marcel several times. I've seen Janek's 32'5 bass. I am looking to hear from anyone who has one or played one. My experience with a 33' five string bass was bad but it was another manufacturer (and not boutique).

Hello F-Bass friends, I am the proud owner of these two fantastic BN5 basses. The white/maple one is from 2014 and the natural/ebony one from 2006. Both play and sound awesome. The white one a bit more crispy/bright and the ebony a bit fatter/more compressed, as one may expect.

Please allow me to ask following:

1) With exactly the same strings and set up the natural/ebony one is quite a bit louder/hotter, even with the pre amp les boosted. Any explanation for this? Is/are the pre amp and/or pickups different between 2014 and 2006?

2) The jack out of the white one is not making 100% good contact with the jack plug and when I start fiddling with it I can make the signal to drop out. This is easily avoided by making the the cord is clamped between the bass and the strap avoiding the plug to move. I do not think this is causing a lower signal. I tried to fix the jack out but it is difficult to reach the contact point. In fact I think I better have it replaced. What are the exact specs/model type of the jackout?

The good folks at FBass sent me this a while back. I should've posted it, to remind myself of the 1 year break in period before posting about a "flaw". I still have a slight E string buzz, but in fairness, I'm not qualified to say what is happening, especially during its adjustment phase.
I'll happily and quietly wait it out and see how it goes. Either way, I still play it every day and like it more as time goes by. Thanks for all of the help and patience I received and I'll see you all on YouTube.

Way ahead of you there, lol. They’re pretty reasonably priced when they come up used, but it’s not that often. I have a great 4-string now, and I don’t think I wanna spend the coin on a new BN4 build to find out which I prefer.
That, and, I can’t seem to put my BN5 down. Such a great instrument.

I found it odd as it's not listed in his custome specs and also I've never seen it on an F-bass before.

I actually think that Fbass does about the best nut slot work in the industry, and as such I'd personally rather not have a zero fret on an Fbass.

The nut is still there doing it's job, and nothing can replicate a zero fret when it comes to the action and tone. I think they should make it standard on all their instruments.
