Club Fbass (thread 13)

Yeah... there is a little part of me that is very happy it isn't a 5. :D:cautious:

Ish has had some nice 4's in stock and Donovan has a nice one now too. Maybe those <insert brand x here> only players are coming around to F Bass quality.
I could never be a 1 brand kinda guy. So many great basses out there. Bass monogamy is a terrible idea.

My body strap pin loosens EVERY show. I know the tooth pick trick, but that seems like a sketchy fix for such a high end bass. Anyone have any tips? I wish the strap pin was in the traditional spot on the "butt" of the bass.

Are you looking to fix it yourself or have it fixed? I'd first suggest a longer screw. I don't know if F Bass uses whatever comes with what is supplied with the buttons, but I find that they are pretty short, or at the limit of what I'd think is reasonable. If having it fixed a luthier might drill and dowel the existing hole first and then drill into new wood (possibly with a longer screw again).

Interesting, after about two years of having my BN5 I also moved the body strap pin closer to the center not because it was coming loose but I didn’t like the angle the strap was on my back, not enough of an angle and it always felt like the strap was riding upwards,it wasn’t but felt that way, problem solved and it made NO difference in the balance of the bass, I was also concerned about there being no metal inserts for the control cavity screws where the battery lives and George told me to line the grooves with epoxy and let it dry and that would tighten the screw, don’t know if this is the same “ toothpick” fix that was mentioned but you might try that on your strap pin.

Prototyping ehh? :woot:

Same here! :roflmao:

I'm hugely interested in the Smith-type pickup config that Donovan sold a few weeks ago.

I'm becoming a fan pretty quickly. I can say that this "modified deluxe" has the BN foundation with a lot of frosting on top. I have been able to get super bright pinging bridge tone all the way to mid focused Motown P tones. There is a lot of space in between. I have been experimenting with the Single Coil options this week and trying to make it be the J Bass + that I feel like is BN meat and potatoes. It's an easy as a flip of a switch, but there is more there to explore as well. My only displeasure is this was the year I had planned to really dig into and explore fretless again, full time. That will be a challenge now.

Have you ordered one?

Had to spend some time away from home, but now that I’m back I made sure to get the Deluxe out. I’m enjoying the neck in parallel blended equally with the bridge in series. I notice that if I start with one all the way up and fade the other in that there’s some phase cancelation that starts to take place and when both are balanced I get a nice mid warmth and presence with a little high and low roll off that’s different from just an EQ and/or tone knob adjustment. With a bit of drive it got me a sound I was quite happy with tonight.
