Club Fbass (thread 13)

Just wanted to circle back and share:
- The Mac ebony fretboard sounds great and I don’t feel like I’m missing out on any highs or attack. Very happy with the tone.
- The DR Fat Beams experiment was a huge success for me. Compared to the FBass exposed core strings I feel like the Fat Beams are a little more of everything: a little more aggressive, a little more oomph and volume, a little more bass, low mids, and upper mids. All that with no “chorus” type effect or strange overtones when played with a pick or slap. It’s definitely less of a vintage vibe if that’s what you’re chasing, though. On top of that the Fat Beams can be found at a cheaper price and are much easier to track down thus they will be my string of choice for right now. Side note: I left the exposed core B string because the fundamental is so clear and solid. We’ll see if I change that later.

I’ve kinda wondered if the DR Long Necks are worth a look as a blend between exposed core and full wrap strings, or if it’s just a bad compromise.

I use them on my US Lakland 55-94 and love them, but it has the old barts so it’s NOwhere near as bright and clear as a BN5. For awhile it seemed like DR wasn’t making them (or at least they were out of stock everywhere), but they’re around now, so….

Super nice.

Man I still cannot get over the $10k P bass on there. I really don't understand. Maple neck, like nothing crazy. And $9999. Ok then.

It says RARE. What more do you want?
:woot:

The pine grey looks so good in pics but the one I saw in person didn’t flip my switch. I think the room lighting is very influential. It can be almost black in some pics/light, but change to an odd blended color in others. Gotta love F Bass for being adventurous.

Heard that, it took Hi-Beams to wake up my 55-94.

Here’s a shout out to Fbass and Reimer guitars :)

The VF5 is extra special.
Brazilian RW board built by Dan Minton!
So cool and the woods sing! Love it!

Beautiful Canadian builds:

I’ve recently experienced Fbasses products built in 2020 and 2021.
I feel even better than 2017 / 2018 builds which were quite good too
Both the 2020 and 2021 have been incredible. Unfortunately I could only keep one.

They’re really cranking out nice stuff.
So for those waiting on a build, they’ll make it worth the wait!

A question for the AC Fretless owners out there. Has anyone tried LaBella Supersteps (from LaBella) with them? I understand that the Fbass exposed core strings are the same type of exposed core string made for them by LaBella, but they're not available where i'm from. Just wondering if those would work with the throughbody stringing that the AC uses. Also, has anyone tried LaBella tapewounds with the AC? Not sure if there are any tapewounds that can be used with throughbody basses.

Thanks!
