Club Fbass (thread 13)

I just tried a set of Cobalt Flats on my BN6 and am liking them quite a bit so far. They have more spank than the entirely dead set of Super Brights on my Jazz (which, I might add, died VERY quickly with my skin chemistry).

I know Tom7 has TI's on one of his AC6s - anyone else using flats regularly?

I have yet to actually do it, but I've been thinking that the nice top-load action of the Hipshot B style bridge should allow me to swap sets of strings on and off fairly easily (without having to pull the coiled end through the bridge)

I guess I should have spoken up sooner, but I was just so curious. *ALL* of you guys have been online friends of mine for years, and bassists I've looked up to, and that gave me a different side than I've seen before.

By the way, I'm fine with people talking about other brands in this club; I don't see that has hijacking a thread at all. In fact, comparisons and contrasts are actually really important ways of communicating the pros and cons of basses.

However, I would caution us about how we talk about people.

I get that people don't always mesh -- I know I'm not that fond of some people on TB -- but how we talk about people also says something about ourselves.

Have people seen or tried out the newer VF "model" or spec with alder wings and an ash core mixed body? It's been around for a while . There was a PJ version at namm this year....loved the bass.

I keep going back to this BN5 Marcel posted last month. I could see the green version of this making a beautiful BNF5.

I really dig that new see thru seafoam green finish they have. Here's a question: Has anyone had their VF spec'd with Aguilar '70s single coils? Fbass makes no recommendation for them on their website for some reason.

When we did the r and d on the Aggie pups the preference was for the 60s singles, so they became standard. I think 70s can be an option np if you like

Hey Mitch, do you still have that custom Studio model that you designed ? I always loved the Studio line but I forgot what the changes were you made, a larger body was one of them I think.

Hey Jim, I didn't design it from scratch at all, George had the model when I met him so long ago. But what I wanted is 34 " scale, go back to nitro finish , custom SD pups like they had in the early 2000s, one piece back of neck, northern ash. The Studio always had a different body size and shape and twenty frets. The body had more surface connection with the neck in the pocket especially along the upper horn. Great model and a fav of George and myself which is why they did a whole limited run of them a few years ago. They will still make a custom one I believe, just talk to Marcel or George.

Interesting question. I've been wondering about the alder winged BN5s I've seen popping up lately, like this one with a roasted maple finger board.

Tom they are applying this formula to basically any model save maybe the Caron....Mike League and others have them, they have become one of my fav specs in an FBass.
