Club Fbass (thread 13)

Outed indeed :)

I have nothing against Dave or his establishment, he was very gracious with his time, knowing full well I was killing time and my max purchase was something I could take carry-on - which ended up being a set of strings.

I've bought from Club Bass as well, though I've never been to the store. I'm rather disappointed to see that their bass selection seems to be dwindling. All that's left now are the 3 brands you mentioned.

I know you're talking about Club Bass in Toronto (yes, I've outed them!). Your F bass can easily hang with those brands mentioned. I'm surprised though that they don't carry Canadian brands like F bass or Dingwall.

I think they tried to carry them at one time. They had a habit of carrying a brand for a while and then dropping them without warning. Not sure if that's still the case. Sadowsky Metro, Roscoe, Lakland Skyline seem to be mainstays.

I don't know about Dingwall, but suspect that Hamilton (FBass) is just too close for Dave to be able to stock them and given that Fbass also sells direct.

Sheldon had his stuff in Club Bass for a minute and it was a disaster, and George and Marcel from FBass will never deal with Club Bass, proximity or not. In fact, both brands are currently in Toronto Long and McQuade stores downtown Toronto ( FBass) and Markham( Dingwall, FBass). Doing well too:)
FBass will also carry stock in their showroom at the shop for anyone who didn't know.

Sounds like an interesting story here...

Lakland is also now in Cosmo music in Markham too ( just a few km north of Toronto)….and they also picked up Xotic. Bergantino is in L and M Markham now as is Ken Smith….Mike Lull is in a local music shop in downtown Toronto.

Cosmo had Suhr for a while and they just hung on the wall…and a lot of money tied up in just one. But I heard at NAMM this year Suhr is going to spend more energy on bass making than before…so who knows.

Just saw big wreck live here in town. Dave McMillan, an F artist (and club member), played his Suhr J more than his VF4. It sounded good, though so did the F. And even the Fender J he also played. The Suhr P he played on one song got lost in the mix though and just sorta "filled in the bottom end", unlike his typical playing which is pretty cutting (and skillful).

Of course Ian Thornley is a big Suhr guy, and it sounds like Dave tried and loved the bass at one of their 2016 "factory event" deals, per his twitter.

Very interesting...

I can't order a Roscoe bass from a US dealer because we have a Canadian one - Club bass. But their selection is not that interesting to me.

Sorry for the hijack. Back to the F basses!

Hey clubers,
"New" one. Old model, original headstock.
Love the pickups, but not a big fan of the OBP-3 or the natural finish (originally was green), so probably I will change both things for a Seymour Duncan and a nice color.
Perfect match with my F BNF5.
Oh, btw, does anybody know about height for this kind of pickups?

Thanks a lot.

Uh, whatever. The "Fodera value debate" yet again on TB...(yawn). Funny how AC sells every bass he makes with a 3 year backlog. Lots of good builders out there ....

+1 to this. People who say that a brand is overpriced have to explain why they sell them at that price, all day. If you can't afford it, or dont think its worth the price, thats your right, but don't get that confused with "Overpriced". If they were overpriced, by definition, they would not sell.

I wouldnt buy a $10k Fodera personally, but I'm quick to make a distinction between my subjective preferences and a blanket statement about the pricing that a manufacturer sets.

But alas, this has been discussed ad nauseum. It just annoys me when I see/hear it.

Me and Dave get along great. I don't think he's a troll, I'm just sensitive to subjective opinions being delivered as fact. Dave didn't use the word overpriced, I did. And my point how about terminology and market value stands. Long and short, buy what you like, and try not to slag on stuff you don't.

Out of context? I was commenting on Suhr basses which were being discussed above.

You're so tired of it, yet you are compelled to respond to a single post, not even in an AC thread.

Curious, does it take Constant self assurance to justify your boutique bass budget?

What's that in your Avatar? Do you know Jimmy personally?

Let it go. Jimmy will be fine. Take it to the AC thread where you can get stroked for your collection and connections.

Well you brought up AC , no one else did... you turned it into an AC thing..look for yourself its on record above..this is classic trolling from an angry internet Cowboy..

+1.
Thanks. My intent was to talk up Suhr and convey how long he has been around, which is a testament to his work. I didn't think my AC comment would be so offensive...especially since we aren't in the AC thread.
