Club Fbass (thread 13)

My PJ is a really early one, but my favourite sound is just the P soloed.
I usually use it passive, but use the preamp if the situation requires it.

I've A/B'ed the above with my friend's 61 and 66 Fender Ps and I was delighted, not to mention a little surprised, that I objectively preferred the sound of my F!

I know it may sound like a silly thing to say, but it sounds more P than the above, completely stock Fenders.
Makes perfect sense to me. A factory made bass from the sixties doesn't stand a chance against the masters at F Bass!

Well friends it's been a GREAT day!!
Took a trip to Hamilton to pick up my VF5-PJ.
First and foremost A heartfelt thanks to George, Marcel and all the gang at FBass!
The work they do, and the way they treat you is first class, top-notch!
I can't put into words how great it feels to finally have my first FBass so I'll just attach a couple pics.......

A GREAT DAY FRIENDS!!!!!

All I could do over the weekend, at least from my phone, was "like" your post. Now that I am in front of a PC, wow! Just Wow! That red one is a beauty for sure. I am glad(and sad) that you got the fretless. I think I might have been second in line if you had passed. I too am on the 3 F Bass path, but I am now working toward the fretless. The blue is going to be really awesome as well. Again... Grats!

Thanks for not snagging the fretless before me, I absolutely love it!
I barely put them down over the weekend. The BNF6 won out and came to church with me. The guitar player was blown away by it's beauty and tone. It's my first unlined fretless and my intonation above The12th fret was a little sketchy, but it will be fun to get up to speed on this baby. The plan is for that to be my main gospel bass. The BN5 my main rock bass, with the VF5 there whenever the need (or desire) arise. I sold off almost every other bass I owned to finance this endeavor. I know it's only been a few days but I don't think I'll regret it.
What are you planning on for your fretless? AC,BNF?

Yeah man... you're welcome. :) I did OK with the VF too. So, Have to ask, what do you think is the meat of the reaction. I get the same thing. I had at least two people come up to me yesterday and tell me how great the bass looked and sounded. I know my playing hasn't markedly improved in the past few weeks, but the reaction certainly has.

It is surprising just how similar our paths are in terms of basses, when we plan to play them, and what we have sold/are selling to make it so. There is just nothing like them and I would never have dreamed that to be true prior to playing the BN6 before buying it. I think it was meant for me, because it is way too nice an instrument to have hung out for over a month waiting for me to get the purchase together.

I am leaning toward the AC6, maybe 5. I really like the description of the sound on that bass as well as the youtube videos of Alain playing the bass. I am also blown away by the violin burst finish with the purfling. And the red. And the blue. And all the bursts. Yeah, one of each. ;)

FWIW... I don't think you'll regret it either. You've got some amazing basses to play for sure.

This may sound a little over the top but I think the reaction is due not only to the stunning beauty of these basses and the clarity and depth of the tone, but also these bases may inspire us to a slightly different approach. Not so wildly different that it's obvious to us or others, but different enough because we hear the subtle nuances and endeavor to bring them out. Just a thought.

I was thinking of an AC as well but the BNF6 became available and the price was right.
Are you going to have it built or find one used?

I can see what you are saying. I certainly feel inspired when playing them. I also agree with the depth of tone. My impression is that it cuts through the mix better than the other basses in the same venue. We rotate players and the other bassists uses what appears to be a fairly stock P-Bass, I'm guessing MIM, and it just doesn't get through the mix the way the F bass does. I've not played it at any of my cover band gigs, but I probably will in the near future.

Your BNF6 is beautiful to be sure and I am glad it found the perfect home. The price was as good as it gets too. I'd like to think I can find one in good shape used, but I am acting like I will be building it with Marcel et al. I'm particular and I have high expectations of customer service. Everyone I've spoken with at F Bass has exceeded my expectations. That is worth a lot to me.

Without a question the customer service at Fbass is among the best I have ever experienced, and not just for instruments but in any field.
When I started with the builds my BN was going to have a mac ebony board and i wasn't even sure if I was getting a second bass. When the Vf was first commissioned it was going to be ash /maple. Marcel helped me through a multitude of changes and adjustments till I ended up with a birdseye maple board on the BN add ash/rosewood on the VF.
The whole time Marcel was patient and extremely helpful while I made changes leading up to my final decisions.
These guys and girls get it where so many others fail these days.
Customer service is ultra important!
