According to Marcel the finish is trans red with pore filling.
It really turned out well. While I was waiting I couldn't help but check out every picture of Fbasses I could find. I didn't see another VF5-PJ in this configuration. It may exist but I didn't see it.

That's correct it's birdseye maple. Here it is beside a standard maple neck for a sixer

That depends on when they are starting the next batch of your type (BN, VF or whatever). Usually around 4 to 6 months. I ordered both my BN and Vf in late April. It just so happened that they were starting a batch of VFs before the BNs so I got my VF first even though I ordered the BN a few days before that one. Counting the days till the BN is ready, should be about two more weeks.
I'd love to see my friend, Jason Langley's face when he saw this bass for the first time. He has a real thing for red basses.

Sorry, I've been pretty ill for a couple of weeks and not looking in here.
When it comes to fretless basses, only 6-strings make sense to me.Yeah man... you're welcome.I did OK with the VF too. So, Have to ask, what do you think is the meat of the reaction. I get the same thing. I had at least two people come up to me yesterday and tell me how great the bass looked and sounded. I know my playing hasn't markedly improved in the past few weeks, but the reaction certainly has.
It is surprising just how similar our paths are in terms of basses, when we plan to play them, and what we have sold/are selling to make it so. There is just nothing like them and I would never have dreamed that to be true prior to playing the BN6 before buying it. I think it was meant for me, because it is way too nice an instrument to have hung out for over a month waiting for me to get the purchase together.
I am leaning toward the AC6, maybe 5. I really like the description of the sound on that bass as well as the youtube videos of Alain playing the bass. I am also blown away by the violin burst finish with the purfling. And the red. And the blue. And all the bursts. Yeah, one of each.
FWIW... I don't think you'll regret it either. You've got some amazing basses to play for sure.
One reason is it lets you play closer to the nut, where intonation is easier to achieve.
Another reason is harmonics. When you can ping off harmonics from a C string, you get new possibilities.
Sorry to hear you've been unwell. I hope you're back to100%. Thanks for the number, it's a nice round one. I don't like to correct a veteran like you but as of now I 'only' have theVF5-PJ and the BNF6. No VF70s JJ. On the brighter side I'll attach pics when my BN5 is in the fold.

I have to admit, that even after a week, and all the other F Basses I'd like to have, I still have a serious case of GAS over that red VF. If she sounds half as good as she looks, she's amazing!

My favourite tones are ppup 80-100%, jpup 0-20%, tone 80-100%. Any combinations in that range for me Is golden. When in active mode a low boost between 25-50%, with a light sprinkling of mids and highs......just beautiful!
I ran her through my pedal board for the first time last night and was very impressed at how well she responded.
I was a little nervous waiting on this build wondering how it would look cos there were no pictures of other basses like this to get a reference from. It was a leap of Faith that the crew at Fbass pulled off stunningly.
Hi wthompson007, I'm intrigued by your red PJ as well. I have never had a P or a PJ and recently I had decided getting a Sadowsky PJ until your post.... Now i'm torn. May I know the spec of your PJ? Is that ash body with rosewood board? If so, may I ask why this combo and not the typical Alder, RW?

First off let me say I'm no expert here, I'm just a guy.
It's a standard pj with the j in sixties position. You're correct it is an ash/rosewood combo. It started off being ash/maple, but Marcel over at Fbass, after finding out what I was going for strongly suggested the ash/rosewood. Rosewood and sixties position jpup to mellow out the ash a bit compared to the bright snappiness of maple 70s position.
Some people need to sound like Pino or Jamerson to get the gig so they grab a pbass. Totally understandable. I told Marcel I didn't need to sound like anybody just myself.
If your going for the traditional pbass sound then you might want to go with the traditional wood configurations. I was looking for something a little different.
Again, I'm no expert but the people at Fbass are. We put our heads together and came up with this.
