Man this setup sounded SO good last night. Not pictured, pedalboard with Cali76CB and Arkham Oracle.
The JV is my ringer bass, and I just had it refretted and it plays really well, such a joy to play it. The Blue J Classic really blew me away on the gig in terms of feel and tone. I'm not the biggest Lollar guy but wow does this bass cut and sit really well. Just awesome. Here is a link to the live stream of the show if you're on faceblerg. Link Removed

I think I bought this jv used two or three years ago? It has been well used and the frets were a bit beat up, and already had been dressed a couple times. I had it refretted because I took it to my repair guy to get the action down and he noticed a couple of frets popping up so between that and the wear I just sprung for the refret. It was expensive, but Worth it for a bass this great.
I have to agree 100% on that! Mine looks like your J IV and has ebony neck but every time I play it I’m reminded how amazing it it. Just switched to Dunlap Super Brights and like it even more.
Why the refret already? I had mine plekd a few months are buying it but frets are in great shape. Also, did you swap out the Moollon pickups for Lollars? Curious to know why.
Killer sound! You're right about how well they sit in the mix.
And on a side note, this band it so damn good! I still hit up the videos you guys posted on YouTube from time to time and show them off to other 'Dan fans to prove that some great players have put in the work to make an awesome tribute band. Keep up the great work!

No, it sounds like it was ordered with the Lollars and the 66 neck (not sure if thats just binding, or binding + somewhat different profile). I am hoping to get the YJ pickups in it as soon as possible, but it sounds like it will be a bit before theyre available.
I updated a Lakland Glaub with YJ pickups a while back and it was an absolute revelation.
I can vouch. This was a major upgrade to an already great bass, but which I think had the wrong default pickup.

can’t recall. It was an exact replacement for what was on it, which looked like a 70’s jazz bass wire to my eyes.

Just to prevent any potential confusion in the thread, I thought I might chime in again...
1. The "1966" Jazz neck shape is one that YJ based on actual measurements he took from a vintage Fender. It has the same a 38mm nut width but with closer string spacing at the nut (by a tiny degree), so folks with larger hands may find it a bit unwieldy, also because the binding itself is at a 90˚ angle to the fretboard, whereas the standard J-neck angles (YJ's template is based a 1962 and early 1964) toward the back sooner...not easy to explain. Nothing as severe in "roundness" as a Hofner 500/1, but it does feel quite different if you try both Moollon J necks, one after the other...that is to say, the general feel of the 1966 profile is partially determined by the binding being there in the first place, although the general shape is basically like an average 4-stringed Moollon J-neck.
2. Most people already know this from the FAQ, but Moollon basses cannot be ordered with other aftermarket parts of any sort, save special pickguards (if in a vintage shape), ashtray covers, or thumbrest/tug-bars. Note that YJ has worlds of respect for Carey Nordstrand, Carey Nordstrand, and all the good people out there doing their take on the vintage thing...but every Moollon is meant to be/look/sound like a Moollon from the start, and as such, other company pickups have never been an option out the door, nor will YJ install alternate sets if sent to him...but we all knew that

Ugh...Rushing out the door to lunch I don't know how Carey's name got there twice when I could have sworn to have typed Jason Lollar after that in sequence of esteemed pickup winders I intended to mention.

What can one do about trying to put an order in for future build on a PIV? I have sent email to two different addresses listed and haven’t gotten response yet. Website is not the most helpful. I have a few Bluesman Vintage that I have been enjoying. I like the less is more approach by these builders. So I would like to order a Moollon P.
