Club Moollon

How would people with Moollon jazz basses describe the tone of these pickups compared to other well known jazz bass pickups?
Say to Fralins, Duncans, Aguilar etc. Thinking of ordering a set but have never really heard them.
I have had the opportunity to play my J Classic plenty while also having a set of Moollon pickups in addition that I’ve passed through several other J style instruments. The key takeaway for me is that they have more low-mid presence in both neck and bridge position most noticeably when solo’d - it’s to the point where the neck pickup is close enough to my Fender P that I really just take the J out anymore and use the neck soloed if I want a P sound. As you might expect, the full scope of the sound of the Moollon doesn’t reside entirely in the pickups when you move them to another instrument but they were much more pleasing to me place in other J’s than wherever was already in them. I also like that the Moollon pickups are a little darker in the high frequencies, to my ear I prefer the sound of brightening a dark pickup with EQ than darkening a bright pickup in the same manner.

Thought I was finally joining the club... might have to wait until Monday. I am not someone who had an order in - managed to find a P classic IV.

The Gator case suffered some shipping damage but protected the bass like a champ! So happy to finally have my hands on one (by some small miracle). The shop in Korea does not ship overseas so I begged my friend who lives in Incheon for assistance.

Picked up a used P Classic IV here recently from our own @melodiaopus, and while there was nothing "wrong" with the stock pickguard, I reached out to Andi and grabbed one of their tortoiseshell guards. The finish was supposed to be Ice Blue Metallic but went heavy on Inca Silver during the making. Looks pretty lush to me 😀

Great info. Thanks

Amazing! Congratulations!

Can I ask what shop in Korea did you buy it from? (I'm in Seoul at the moment.)

Go here:

The main dealer is called Werock I think. He didn’t have any in stock when I was there months ago. I found mine at another all bass boutique shop there. Just walk around and you’ll find the couple of bass shops. It’s a fun place to be.

Paulie nailed it! You'll need a bit of luck but I'm rooting for you - @point_departure

Thank you! That spot is on my shortlist, but doing online research has been tricky. This is super-helpful.

I have been in touch with Andi and might swing by to see YG at the shop, if his schedule permits.

I will report back.

I understand YJs decision to discontinue the less popular options. I was bummed out when I read the sparkle finishes would no longer be offered. Andi said many times in the past the sparkle finishes felt texturized.
I kind of resent the people who bitched about the finish knowing when ordering the sparkle would have a textured feel. I’m guessing this played a part in the decision, along with the finish being more labor intensive.
Guess who wanted a sparkle finish Classic P LOL.
My plan was in a few years hopefully when YJ had caught up with orders to place a deposit on one.
Well it looks like my unicorn in the used market will be a Rootbeer sparkle P.
Enough of my griping very grateful for the Moollon I own.
