Club Moollon

Friends, I have a problem on my P Classic. The jack out is sometimes noisy when the cable wiggles and it goes away when I give the connector a push and tighten the cable. That works until I move around a bit, the cable wiggles a bit and I get static again. Also last gig I was at it dropped signal altogether a few times, which came back when I tightened the cable again.

I've swapped cables, amps and basses and I can say without doubt the issue lies with my Moollon. So this morning I opened her up with the plan to tighten up the Switchcraft socket, but to my surprise it all seems very solid on the inside. I cannot see any play at the tip, seems like a solid connection. The socket is not moving or rotating in any way and the soldering looks perfect (to my eye).

What could be the issue here and how do I fix it? Taking it to a tech is always an option, but I'd rather not.

I had this problem on my P--is it touching the copper foil around the edges of the control cavity? I had some that was peeling away and touching the output jack causing noise--just had to trim/neaten it up so that contact was no longer made.

I had a problem with mine when I first received it, a few years back now. That loss of volume thing mostly, and some crackling. I traced it back to a pickup issue. I was sent new pups and installed them myself and the problem was solved.

Thanks for the help. I'll look into them.

When putting the pick guard back on I noticed it needed a bit of push to get it back in place as if some of the electronics are rubbing against the control cavity. Your suggestion made me think back to that. I'll try to test it with the pick guard off the body, see if the problem persists with the electronics outside the body.

Got my P Classic all checked out with a new truss rod nut as well. Looks great and plays great, but after 10-15 years of mainly vintage style basses besides Sadowsky, I am going more modern in what I am using now. So if anyone is looking for a really beautiful P Classic in Emerald Ocean, check the classifieds for this one - https://www.talkbass.com/classifieds/moollon-p4-classic.1676371/

Listed my refinished P classic in the classifieds for my Canuck brethren!

I'm gassing for a moollon p4. Is it not a good idea to try contacting them and put in an order right now? Looks like the build time is 5-6 years lmao. Any other alternatives for a p4 that have the same feel?
I have only been keeping an eye on this from a distance, but I wouldn't order one right now. For me, they have also done away with a number of options I was attracted to in the first place (this is not a knock on the company or the build quality, but rather the appeal in my purchasing one).

Too bad, because they look good and I don't doubt they are excellent basses.

The P4 is seemingly the most ubiquitous. Just watch this thread or the classifieds and you’ll find one

Let’s be honest with each other. They are not going to be taking new orders. The writing has been on the wall for quite some time. There are back orders going to 2020-21 still from posts I’ve seen. I wish it were not the current situation and wish YJ all the best. He is a master luthier and many of us are so lucky to have his basses. But, things slowed down and he was apparently unwell. Still? I don’t know. If you don’t have a Moollon currently, the only way is second hand. And it’s been that way for a long time with no communication from Andi in like a year.

honestly at that rate they should just close the shop and refund everyone's orders, instead of giving us false hope
