Steve, trust me on this one...the mass in the tuners is part of the formula for tone in this brand. I’ve found changing the tuners generally on any bass makes a tonal change too. If you try the lights you might still like the bass and / or even prefer the tone ....but be prepared for some change if we hear the same way.
YJ makes a 4 string P bass but not a 4 string w/ the pickup that’s in the P5. If that makes sense.
I find my J-Classic V to be very well balanced, but maybe yours has a slightly lighter body. I swapped out the stock tuners for Ultralights on a Road Worn Jazz Bass that I own, and after doing that it didn't sound as good or have as much sustain - not hugely, but enough to be noticeable. From that experience and others I have come to the opinion that the type of metal used in the tuners and their mass does make a difference tonally. I have heard that Young Joon put a lot of effort into replicating the metallurgy of the pre-CBS Fender tuners for the ones he uses on the Moollons.

I decided while on vacation in Seoul to drop by Young Joon’s shop. YJ is a super cool dude! After a few minutes of looking around and chatting a light metallic blue P body caught my eye. So we picked out a sweet rosewood neck, and when I leave in a couple of weeks I will have a beautiful and resonant remembrance of my first trip to Korea.

Ah... so you're the gent who snagged the last Ice Blue Metallic P-IV body. Nice! That body was made many moons ago, a sister of this P-IV that went to a fellow in Australia.
And BTW, unless YJ pulled out a neck I knew nothing about from the rack, I know of only three J-Classic V prototypes c.2010 that were intentionally made with an Indian rosewood fretboard... all other Moollon guitars and basses were/are makassar ebony

Well I finally had the J Classic-V out at my gig Friday night and played it for the 1st set.. It does capture that vintage Fender tone/sound quite well.. Plays great.. Bought it to check out and not sure if I'm keeping it, my MBasses are suited alittle better for my main gig right now..
Last I knew, they were using DR Pure Blues strings.
I knew that I wanted flats on my P-Classic IV. I had arranged for them to put no some DR Legend Flats. When I got the picture of my bass completed, black background etc, I noticed it didn't have the amber silk wraps that the Legend Flats do, and brought it up. Long story short, YJ hunted down his DR distributor on a weekend, got a set, changed the strings and monitored my bass for a day or two to makes sure it set up to his specs (which are great). There customer service is the best I've ever dealt with.
They come stock with DR Pure Blues, as of a couple months ago and as far as I know.
So aside from the occasional used sell in the states, how does one go about picking one of these basses up?

And while dropping by for the first time in a while...
Here are some images of the aforementioned Longhorn B524 bodies recently completed in LPB and Metallic Green (or Light OTM, if you will). As with the Root Beer Sparkle Longhorn B524 from a few years back, this is the shape of all future B524s.
And from an angle to show a bit more of the forearm contour angle.
The Longhorn B524 version was originally designed alongside the rounder B524, the longer upper horn specifically serving to prevent headstock dive. That said, we still have loads of the rounder bodies in a wide range of colors.
