Is there a big variance in the performance of a specific model of tennis racket? not trying to be annoying, just curious.

FWIW, this is the first less than glowing experience I've heard with a Moollon owner. Perhaps I'm not paying close enough attention. I'd be more interested in Andi and Moollons response to a less than optimal instrument than the problem itself, as "things" happen, and no company has a 0% margin of error.

There ya go. Learn something every day. I expect organic materials to have variance but not synthetics.

Regardless, I hope you get it sorted out and get back to playing a bass that you love that works for you.

Own a PV and JV.

Are they as tank like in their build as a Sadowsky? No.

Do I care? No. I’m hard on my instruments. Chip away. Work to hard and often to worry about cosmetics.

Have I had any structural issues? Nope. One or two high frets in the upper register on my used JV. Easy fix.

Have owned over 50 Sadowsky’s over the years. Roger makes a great bass. Prefer his early to late 90’s basses. But the Moollon is the closest to a killer pre-CBS P or J with a killer B string that I’ve found. Sadowsky doesn’t come close.

Sonically they’re unbelievable to tape and have had more FOH guys comment than on the Sadowsky’s.

Like em both. But Rogers stuff is more driving a Volvo and the Moollon is like finely tuned sports car reacting to my every move. More delicate, yes but no where a deterrent.


Also, it’s one guy doing everything from the ground up, I’m happy to cut YJ a little slack on minor things. Others may feel differently.

Considering the Moollons are about HALF the price point of
an NYC Sadowsky, they’re an unbelievable bargain. Reached out to Andi this morning about ordering my 3rd.

My 2 cents...worth every penny.

From what I know they take pride in their work so I don't think they would ship something that they knew was bad. I'd expect them to offer a warranty replacement or to cover the cost of a repair.

I actually went back to Sadowsky..lol. I feel like it is the sports car for me. Super smooth action, ultra light, just kills in a mix. It's easily the best made bass I have ever owned.

But I play a Sadowsky 4 string P/J and I played a 5 string Moollon J, so there is a difference there. Most people think of a Jbass when they think of Roger, and his P/J is a magical build. I still think about getting a 4 string Moollon P, which is why I still follow this thread, but I have been so happy with my AVRI Fender that I can't justify the expense yet.

The Moollon was the best looking bass I owned. Just for that I hated to sell it. It was so unique. Still kills me, but I had a certain direction I needed to go in and I am happy with it.

Ya.....no.

Pro or well known musicians don’t always get equipment made to higher standards than the general public... in fact although it may happen the odd time , after decades in this industry and working closely with many builders as more than just a customer (and knowing many others very well) it pretty much hardly happens at all. Btw I don’t know about tennis rackets just for the record:) I just don’t want anyone going down this road about Moollon , or others. Not the case.
IME after making several orders over time and sharing experiences with friends and colleagues Andi, YJ and company have been great at customer service and really take care of their players.

I just want to add that FB reminded me it was my one year anniversary with my P-Classic IV earlier this week and after regular gigging, I still feel like I'm in the honeymoon phase. Not to mention, despite the recent polar vortex here in MI (-20 to -30 degrees), the neck hasn't moved at all since I received it.

Something that I wasn't totally transparent about is the fact that when I received the bass, the body side edge of the case was slightly bent causing the farthest buckle on the right to take some english, which I took to reflect the rough 6500+ mile journey, not to mention customs.

I like vibes/character in a bass, so the thin nitro finish doesn't bother me. Particularly because the neck pocket, fit and finish are so damn tight.

Hey Maxfenderbass. I'm in Vancouver -- not helpful, I know. *But* I've ordered and received both a P4 and a P5 from Moollon the last year. Also, I've purchased Aguilar gear from Peter @mojomusic very recently. Excellent people to work with, excellent basses, excellent everything. Pick your P4 color and order with confidence. I wanted to try one first but went for it anyway... and can't imagine being happier.
